Number 32
Nicolette and Jane beam at Aaron as he brings in Isla to check out her Christmas presents. David's still feeling unsettled about Roxy's musings on Harlow last night, but Aaron thinks Harlow's just taking Paul and Terese's separation hard. David says they'll have to keep an eye on Harlow today seeing as Glen's also joining the festivities. Aaron asks if Terese will be joining them too, but David says she never got back to him so he assumes she has other plans. Talk turns to Britney and Leo, causing some concern in David, but Aaron's just pleased Britney's making the effort.
AARON: Plus it'll give Isla and Abigail a chance to hang out.
DAVID: They're four and a half months old, not fourteen.
In the kitchen, Nicolette is surprised at how much alcohol Jane wants to add to the punch. But Jane says she's going to need it if she's meant to get through the day in Paul's company. Nic asks if her mum needs a safe word, so they decide on "punch".
Number 22
Hendrix and Mackenzie have popped in to give Roxy and Kyle some presents. Kyle's stoked to get a native cooking class voucher from Hendrix. "Dad'd be proud I'm finally learning something," Kyle chuckles. The gang then talk about Harlow (after Roxy filled Kyle in last night), and Roxy hopes that David will take their concerns seriously. "How do you even bring that up?" Kyle wonders. "Merry Christmas, Harlow, I think you might be psycho?" On that note, Hendrix and Mackenzie head back to #28 before Karl can put himself in charge of the music.
Roxy tells Kyle that she wants to talk about their wedding on the drive to Frankston. Kyle admits he was struggling a bit with the planning and nearly got bowled over with Sheila's 'help', but then had the bright idea to hire a wedding planner. Terese comes downstairs and wishes them both a Merry Christmas. Roxy asks if she'll be okay today, but Terese says she's been invited over to the Kennedys. "We're a phone call away," Roxy reminds her. She then finds a receipt from The Barrel, which jolts Terese, but then Terese lies and says she bought some bottles of wine to take to #28.
Lassiters Complex
Glen stares up at the hotel roof and flashes back to the time when he was about to fall off it. Harlow and Paul emerge from the hotel and stop to speak with Glen. Paul gives Glen a present - a tie exactly like the one Glen gave him thirty years ago. "I've still got it," Paul smiles. Glen thanks him then says he's heading over to #32 soon for Christmas lunch, much to Harlow's distaste.
GLEN: (looking pointedly at Harlow) I hope we can put any bad blood behind us for the day.
PAUL: What's going on here?
GLEN: Your granddaughter's not a fan. Used the hotel key to break into my room.
PAUL: Harlow is this true?
GLEN: (a little too cheery to be dobbing her in) It is!
Ramsay Street
Paul has obviously been having words with Harlow on the way to #32. Sighing, Harlow says she made a mistake by letting herself into Glen's room - Chloe already gave her a warning, and she won't do it again. She then notices Paul staring at #22, so she encourages him to go and see Terese.
Number 22
Terese is sitting at the kitchen bench with a glass of wine when Paul knocks at the door. She doesn't answer when he calls out to her, so Paul decides to speak anyway in case she's there. He apologises for his "unforgivable" behaviour at their counselling session. Terese can't help walking closer to the door, holding her wine, while she listens.
PAUL: It was supposed to be a good experience for both of us, but instead it just brought out the worst in me. What I should have said was that you are the strongest and most loyal, and most loving woman I've ever known. I love you so much, Terese.
He leaves and Terese looks affected by his words. She takes a big gulp of her wine.
Number 32 Backyard
Harlow joins Aaron and David by the pool. They ask where Paul is, but Harlow says he'll be with them after he finishes a phone call with Andrew. "So, this is going to be fun," Harlow says, with a severe lack of enthusiasm that doesn't go unnoticed by David and Aaron. The boys are soon distracted when Leo arrives with Britney and Abigail in tow. Britney's immediately friendly and hugs David and Aaron, even encouraging them to have a cuddle with Abigail while she goes to say hello to Nic and Jane. "She is like a totally different person," Aaron remarks to Leo.
Nicolette gives Britney a hug, then notices Chloe walk in. The exes make overly cheery small talk, led by an awkward Chloe who attempts to give Nicolette a high five. Chloe quickly scurries away to greet Aaron and David. It's then Jane's turn to be awkward as she yells out "PUNCH!" when Paul suddenly arrives. Nicolette's quick off the mark, offering Paul a glass of punch (that she'd just been sipping from), stopping him from going over to Jane. Paul is very befuddled.
Number 22
Terese is looking at a framed photograph of Josh when there's another knock at the door. She yells out for Paul to go away, but it's Glen on the other side this time. Terese hastily hides her glass of wine on the shelf before going to answer.
TERESE: You don't have to check in on me.
GLEN: I have to admit I'm here for both of us. Christmas is hard for me too. It's thirty years.
TERESE: Oh yes, since the accident.
Glen invites her to Aaron and David's so they can be there for each other, but Terese says she's already promised to go to Frankston with Roxy. "Right, well at least you're with people who care about you," Glen concedes. They wish each other a Merry Christmas before Glen goes.
Number 32 Backyard
Britney brings around a platter of food to Aaron and Chloe. Aaron feels bad that Britney's doing all the work, but she says she doesn't mind. Over near the verandah, the Tanaka bros observe proceedings. David tells Leo that it's great to see Britney so relaxed, but Leo says Britney was an entertainer in New York so she's in her element. When the Brennan sibs get a moment alone, Chloe comments in surprise to Aaron that she got "full eye contact and no fork in sight" from Britney. They then play fight over the food, which leads to Nicolette's dress getting ruined by sauce being flung around. Chloe tries to help by dabbing Nicolette with napkins, but she just makes things worse and decides to run off. Nicolette follows Chloe into the house, looking upset that Chloe feels so tense around her. Paul and Harlow see that Glen has arrived, much to Harlow's chagrin.
HARLOW: Here we go.
PAUL: Harlow would you just relax?
HARLOW: (through gritted teeth) I am. Couldn't be more chilled.
David looks at Harlow in concern, while Paul gives Glen a little, awkward hello wave with his punch.
Ramsay Street
Roxy tells Kyle to hustle to the car because Sheila will soon be roasting them about being two hours late. They bump into Hendrix and Mackenzie, who have escaped #28 for a while due to Karl thinking he "nailed the riff to Jingle Bell Rock". Mackenzie then asks if Roxy and Kyle have heard from David about Harlow, but Roxy says it's been radio silence, which might mean she's behaving herself. "Or he hasn't had a chance to speak to her yet," Mackenzie worriedly replies. Roxy asks Mac how Terese is going over at #28, becoming concerned when Mac says she's not with them.
Number 32
Jane rocks Isla while Nicolette heads into the laundry to soak her dress. Paul walks in and Jane tries to ignore him, but Paul attempts to chat. He says he's still got the bauble Jane gave him - he hung it on his tree just last night. "I'm not going down memory lane with you, Paul," Jane states. She understands they're always going to be in each other's lives because of Isla, "couldn't avoid you if I tried", but things between them will never be the same. Jane leaves the room just as Nicolette comes back in and notes the tension. "Spreading some of your special Christmas cheer, Paul?" Nicolette sasses. Paul leaves without answering her, but Glen has witnessed the exchange.
GLEN: Sounds like I'm not the only one around here with issues with Paul.
NICOLETTE: We could compare notes but that might take us to Christmas 2022.
GLEN: Give me the short version.
Number 32 Backyard
Chloe has told Aaron, Leo and Britney about her little mishap with Nicolette earlier, but Britney says she's been in her shoes. Once in NY she was in an elevator with Leo (pre-dating) and thought he was talking to her, but it turned out he had earbuds in the whole time.
David throws out a cheery 'Merry Christmas' to Roxy and Kyle when they appear, but they do not bring good tidings. They're looking for Terese, but she's nowhere to be found. Overhearing, Glen tells them that Terese said she was off to Frankston, but Roxy says that was never on the cards. Harlow stares daggers at Glen when she spies him take out his phone and shoot Terese a worried text message. Roxy then tells the group that she found a receipt for wine today and hopes Terese hasn't started drinking again.
Number 32/Number 32 Backyard
Harlow chases Glen inside and demands to know where Terese is, believing he knows more than he's letting on. Paul joins them from where he was moping beside the Christmas tree, as David, Roxy and Kyle also come inside. Harlow informs Paul that Terese is missing and Glen knows her whereabouts. Glen is adamant he doesn't, but knows she was definitely at home when he called in earlier. David doesn't want anyone to jump to conclusions, which Kyle agrees with, saying Terese could have gone for a walk to get coffee. "A coffee on Christmas Day?" Harlow retorts.
PAUL: Glen if you know something about Terese you need to tell me right now.
GLEN: (looking around at the group) She's been drinking.
PAUL: (taken aback) Since when?
GLEN: A few weeks. She lied to everyone about what she was doing today so she could be alone. Look, we can talk about this later, we need to find her.
PAUL: You're damn right we do. Come on, let's go.
They head out along with Harlow, while Kyle tells Roxy he'll call Sheila and let her know they're not making it to Frankston.
Meanwhile, Aaron and Chloe are in the back room with Leo, Britney and Abigail. Leo asks if Britney's glad she came down, and she says she is. Britney's just happy she got the chance to make up for how she acted last time. Aaron admits that they didn't make it easy for her either. "What I did with Abi was wrong," Britney says, "and I'm sorry." Aaron sees David hovering near the entryway and goes to see what's wrong. David fills him in on the Terese drama, letting him know there's a group going out to search for her. He asks Aaron to hold the Christmas fort while he's gone. "Keep me updated," Aaron says, giving David a kiss.
Outside, Jane and Nicolette are observing Britney, Leo and Abigail. Jane can't get over just how different Britney is. Nicolette figures all she needed was some time away. The two of them smile as they watch Chloe take photos of Leo, Britney and bubs.
Lassiters Complex
Kyle and Roxy say they should split up to cover more ground, so they head to the lake while Harlow heads for the office. Paul glowers at Glen as they make their way to the hotel. "Exactly how long have you known that Terese has been drinking again?" he snaps, but Glen's not here for Paul's aggro.
PAUL: Terese is my wife!
GLEN: Ex-wife. And I'm the one who's been there for her, not you.
Lassiters Hotel Foyer
Harlow finds John Wong waiting for her. He's collated a document folder on Glen: some of it is mundane, but there is something of interest in there too. "Your grandfather's first instinct was right," John says. "Glen Donnelly has some secrets." John hands the folder over to Harlow. She thanks him and says she'll read it later
Number 32 Backyard
Chloe tells Nicolette to send her the dry-cleaning bill for her dress, but Nicolette says she's got it sorted. Chloe then blurts out that she's sorry for the sauce, "and the dabbing - and the high five" she adds, mortified with herself. "Yeah, that high five was weird," Nicolette replies. But Nic assures her not to worry about the rest of it as she knows it was difficult for Chloe to be around her today.
CHLOE: (sarcastically) How? I've been playing it so cool.
NICOLETTE: When you're ready I really hope we can go back to being friends.
CHLOE: I hope so too, but I need some time.
Jane watches them from the adjoining room, looking a little sad for Chloe and Nic. Chloe heads in just as Leo and Britney join Nicolette outside. Nic asks when Britney was heading back home, but Britney surprises them by saying she was thinking about staying a few weeks. "You need more than a couple of hours to see your daughter," Britney smiles at Leo, who is stoked. Leo says they can stay at the penthouse with him. Nicolette wonders if Britney's worried about Paul, but Britney says Paul doesn't scare her, and besides, she's got Leo by her side. When Leo leaves to bring the car around, Nicolette throws a knowing smile Britney's way.
NICOLETTE: Want to tell me what's happening here?
BRITNEY: I don't know what you're talking about.
NICOLETTE: You take no convincing to change your plans at a moment's notice, and now you're staying for a few weeks.
BRITNEY: It's Christmas.
NICOLETTE: It is more than that! I saw the way you were looking at him. Come on, Brit, what's going on?
BRITNEY: Nothing's going on, I'm just happy to see the father of my child.
Lassiters Hotel Rooftop/Lassiters Complex
Harlow finds Terese alone on the rooftop, drunk, holding a glass of wine. Slurring, Terese asks how Harlow found her, which was via the security cameras. Harlow says Paul is really worried about her. "Why?" says Terese. "Because I'm the only person in his life that he can't control?" Harlow makes an attempt to take the wine from Terese, but she's not having it and starts to back away from her.
TERESE: You know what, you're just like your grandfather. You're demanding.
HARLOW: You know if he was here he'd be saying the exact same thing. He's trying to look out for you, which is a lot more than Glen is.
TERESE: No, Glen is a thoughtful, caring person.
HARLOW: No, he is a spiteful manipulator.
TERESE: Oh you don't know anything.
HARLOW: (showing Terese the folder) Not yet, but I will.
Down on the ground, Paul asks Glen if he's heard anything yet, then mutters that he probably wouldn't confide in him anyway. Paul then says if Glen was genuinely concerned about Terese's welfare then he would have told Paul about the drinking the second he found out.
GLEN: Paul you'd be the last person I'd tell after how you pushed her to the point where she kicked you out!
On the roof, Harlow tells Terese that John Wong found something on Glen. Terese cannot believe she hired Paul's PI, but Harlow says she's just finishing the job Paul started. She makes another lunge for the wine glass but Terese won't let her have it.
HARLOW: You're drunk!
TERESE: And you're meddling!
She snatches the folder from Harlow, who demands she return it.
Meanwhile, Glen tells Paul he heard all about what Paul did to Nicolette and Jane. Paul is distracted for a moment by papers flying to the ground from overhead, but snaps his attention back to Glen when he says Paul's the reason Terese relapsed. They're both shocked when they hear a scream and see that Terese is hanging off the side of the hotel roof - Harlow nowhere to be seen.
