Recap
- Geoff takes the kids to the park. Joan panics when she finds them gone.
Park
Joan runs up in a panic, but the kids and Geoff are just playing - he just wanted the chance to say goodbye to them. He has told the kids that he's their father - he wanted them to know the truth. Joan calms down a bit as Geoff apologises for all he's done. As Geoff turns to go, Joan calls him back.
Joan's place
Joan sits the kids down. She tells them that they're going to live with Geoff on his farm in the country (that was a quick decision!) The kids ask if "Uncle Des" is coming and Joan says sadly that he isn't - it's just going to be them and Daddy.
Joan tells Geoff that she'll sort things out with Des. She says that Des will be very upset though.
JOAN: I love you, Geoff.
They have a pash.
The Bank
Des is locking up when Joan approaches him. He's pleased to see her and starts talking about the honeymoon. Joan is silent for a minute. Then she asks Des if they can go home and talk.
Max's bedsit
Max is struggling with the radio complaining that the buttons are too small(!) Shane tells Max that he's going to play squash tonight. He says Max should take it up too, but Max says he has more respect for his body(!)
Shane says that Daphne is going along well in the house-sitting. He gives Max a letter that he picked up in the Ramsay house.
When Shane has gone, Max looks more closely at the letter.
MAX: Oh, strewth! Can't be!
Joan's place
Joan has told Des that she's going back to Geoff. He can't believe it.
DES: After all he's done, you'd prefer him over me?
Joan explains that he's the childrens' father and she wants them to make a go of it. Des asks if their relationship was a joke, but Joan denies this. Des starts to cry and says that Joan and the kids mean everything to him and he loves them. But then he pulls himself together and asks Joan what her plans are. She explains that they're moving back to the country.
JOAN: Des, I never wanted to hurt you.
DES: I guess this is it, eh.
Des's
Des comes in to find Paul, Eileen and Terry at the kitchen table. He goes straight into his room to lie down. Paul goes to see what's happening. Then he come back and tells Eileen and Terry that the wedding is off.
Max's bedsit
Shane wants to know who the letter was from. Max says it's from an old schoolfriend, Amy Medway. He reminisces about their time in the school swimming club.
Joan's place
Joan is looking at a photo of Des when Eileen comes round. Her face is very serious, but says that she hasn't come to have a go at Joan. She's just come to hear from Joan that this what she really wants. Eileen says that she knows Joan wouldn't intentionally hurt anyone. Joan says that she wants to give Geoff a second chance with the children and to make amends with her, too.
EILEEN: Do you love him?
JOAN: Yes. I always have.
EILEEN: That's all I need to know.
She turns and walks out of the flat.
Robinsons
Paul has told the Robinsons about the cancelled wedding. Paul doesn't know what to say to Des - he's been stood up twice now. Terry's more worried how Des will feel at Paul and Terry's wedding. She says they should think about postponing it. Paul isn't pleased.
Des's
Daphne comes in - she's heard the news.
DAPHNE: I'm sorry, I've just heard. I didn't think you'd want to be on your own.
DES: Thanks.
Des says tearfully that he doesn't know what went wrong - he loved Joan so much.
DES: What's wrong with me?
Des says he has to face it - Joan always loved Geoff. He asks Daphne to leave.
DAPHNE: Hey, it's OK, mate.
They hug.
Max's bedsit
Max is trying to decide whether to ring Amy Medway. Shane encourages him to go ahead. Max says he's not sure if he's ready for another woman.
Outside the flat, he makes his decision and puts a coin in the payphone. Amy answers the phone while Shane listens through the wall with a glass(!) They chat away about their families and their divorces. Shane comes out and encourages Max to ask Amy out. He tells her he'll have a look in his diary, but tomorrow night should be OK.
The Bank, the following morning
Des is throwing himself into his work. Julie comes up and for once in her life is sensiitive and doesn't ask Des directly about the cancelled wedding. She says she'll cover for him while he goes home.
Des's
Des comes in sadly as very sad piano music plays. He looks around the room sadly then sits down on the sofa to stat his paperwork. Then he starts sobbing his heart out. Aw.
