David believes that looking after one child is already enough work, and Brent's behaviour hasn't been the best either. But Aaron thinks that with enough love, stability and support they could really help him. David reminds Aaron that they made a commitment to give Emmett the best life possible and he doesn't think that will work when they're stretched too thin.
AARON: Half the problems in my family could have easily been avoided if we weren't separated.
DAVID: That's a different scenario.
AARON: Well how about you? You wouldn't be half the person you are today if you didn't have Leo in your corner.
DAVID: Again, different.
AARON: Yeah but the similarities are there. Brent's got nowhere else to go.
DAVID: We can't save the whole world.
AARON: I know that - but we can save Brent. And if not us, then who?
DAVID: I'm not saying no...
AARON: But you will eventually.
The conversation is put on pause when Aaron has to go to work.
The Waterhole
Kyle tells Levi about what almost happened with Brent and the wallet in case there are anymore thefts reported in the area. Talk soon turns to the Roxy and Sheila standoff. Levi is concerned that Kyle is avoiding his gran (who is currently hiding out in the office 'doing paperwork' because Roxy is also working). Kyle thinks everything will be fine with a bit of time, but Levi's not so sure. His point is proved when Roxy appears and tells them she wants to quit her job and work at the tram instead.
KYLE: You love it here.
ROXY: Past tense. I loved it here. That was when Shane wasn't annoyed at Ned, wasn't studying all the time and Sheila wasn't giving me attitude because we're dating.
KYLE: Can't you sort of avoid her?
ROXY: Avoiding her doesn't change the fact that she hates me.
Kyle says he'll check if there's any shifts going at The 82 but begs Roxy not to resign just yet. When she walks off, Levi says he doesn't envy Kyle's position. Kyle sighs and says he's tried everything but now he'll have to either give up Roxy, his gran or peace and quiet for the foreseeable further.
Number 32
David is trying to help Emmett with his homework but Emmett is not in the mood. He doesn't see why he should bother when Mr Muggleton hates him already. David reminds him that being suspended doesn't mean he's on holiday and that he'll have to introduce more consequences like taking away screen time from Emmett if he doesn't cooperate. Emmett walks out to finish his work in his room just as Kyle arrives for a chat. Kyle can see that David is frustrated and asks if it's because of Brent - he was curious to follow things up after what happened earlier. Emmett hovers in the hallway and eavesdrops on their conversation, surprised when David says that Aaron wants Brent to live with them. Kyle can tell that David's not keen on the idea.
DAVID: He's not exactly a model citizen.
KYLE: Yeah I reckon he'd be a handful. I know I was at his age, that's why Gran sent me up here to live.
DAVID: If Emmett didn't have as many issues as he does, then maybe. But Brent on top of that, I don't think we can do it.
Emmett's face brightens at the thought of his brother possibly living with them.
The Waterhole
Levi takes his epilepsy pills, shoving the container back in his pocket as Clive approaches him for a chat. They talk about the situation between Sheila and Roxy, both of them frustrated that they're not getting along. Levi wonders if they'd be able to negotiate a truce between them. Clive admits that Sheila will move heaven and earth for you if you're in the inner circle, but she views Roxy as an outsider now. Levi attempts to figure out a plan that will let Roxy in.
Lassiters Complex/The Waterhole
Levi bumps into Bea, who is in a much more chipper mood than she was when Elly left. Bea says she took Levi's advice onboard and started self-defence classes. Levi's pleased and asks if she's learnt any cool moves yet. Bea says she'll show him one, but when she puts her fists up she laughs and dashes away instead. Levi grins and says running off is the first rule of self-defence. They talk about how Elly's going and Bea says they've worked out a chat schedule which has also helped out her sleep schedule. Levi sees Roxy leave work and tells Bea he'll catch up with her later. Roxy is surprised when Levi approaches her and invites her to a BBQ that afternoon, but is less than enthused to hear Sheila will be there too.
Inside the pub, Clive has suggested the BBQ to Sheila. She thinks it's a lovely idea and that they can celebrate the fact she can take her eyepatch off later today. Clive says they should invite Kyle too, but Sheila thinks her grandson will be too busy hanging out with "Little Miss Disaster". She screws her nose up when Clive says they could invite Roxy as well.
Levi tells Roxy that it can't hurt to make an effort, but Roxy retorts that it can, does and will. Levi says that he and Sheila never used to be that close either but they're making up for everything now, but Roxy thinks he's being deluded.
Clive tells Sheila she's being stubborn for no reason - she likes Roxy's company. Sheila admits she likes Roxy with the customers but not with her grandson. Clive says that Kyle is more likely to attend the BBQ if his girlfriend can come too.
Levi attempts to persuade Roxy by saying she'll have him, Kyle and Clive in her corner. But Roxy says that Sheila can easily take on four against one. Sighing, Levi says that this whole situation is eating Kyle up and her coming to the BBQ would really make a difference. Roxy relents and agrees to come.
Sheila "supposes" she could manage one meal with Roxy, but Clive says if she wants the cold war to end she'll have to try harder than that. Sheila doesn't think her and Roxy will suddenly become besties after everything that's happened. Clive tells her that with fresh eyesight comes a fresh start.
Number 32
David is using Google to search for what to do 'when your child won't do their homework' when Aaron arrives home from work early. He changed some shifts around to help out at home more. David tells Aaron that he lost his patience with Emmett earlier and the teen has been hiding out in his room ever since. They're both surprised when Emmett appears in the kitchen in a good mood and hands David his completed Geography assignment, asking him to check it over. Emmett then heads back to his room to read a chapter of his English book. Aaron smirks at David like, 'You're right, he's so frustrating right now', adding that the teenage mind is a mystery.

Sheila, sans eyepatch, brings a chocolate cake out on a platter to where Levi and Roxy are. Levi asks how the doctor's appointment went and Sheila says her depth perception's still a bit off but they managed to get all the bits of drone out. Roxy and Sheila act civil towards one another, chatting about how nice the store bought cake looks. Everything's hunky dory until Roxy tries to help Sheila with the platter and between the two of them it somehow ends up squashed on the floor.
SHEILA: That cost me a fortune!
ROXY: I wasn't the one who dropped it.
SHEILA: Why would I drop it?
ROXY: Maybe to blame me.
SHEILA: I'm not that petty.
ROXY: Well then why would I drop it?
SHEILA: I don't know, Roxy, maybe to blame me!
ROXY: Why, because I'm petty?
Levi jumps in to say that it doesn't matter whose fault it was, what's done is done. Roxy suggests they try and save some but Sheila says not to bother, it'll just taste like dirt now. They keep bickering until Levi interrupts again and tells them that neither of them are making things easy on Kyle. He says the two of them are going to "make nice" at this BBQ, full stop.

David reads through Emmett's assignment and tells Aaron that the teen has made a pretty good effort. Aaron smiles and says that if they've already had this effect on one kid, just imagine how they could help two. Emmett joins them outside and says he ended up reading an extra chapter of his book. Aaron's pleased and says when he was Emmett's age he had trouble even starting a book, "and for some time after that too." Emmett then says he's going to clean the pool and declines Aaron's offer of a milkshake afterwards because he thinks he doesn't deserve a treat after his behaviour the past couple of days. "I'm going to be better in the future," he promises them. David and Aaron share a concerned look when Emmett's back is turned. "This is not all down to our good parenting is it?" Aaron asks David, who just shakes his head in response.

Roxy cleans the cake off the floor while Clive and Kyle bring out the BBQ meat to cook. Kyle makes a crack about Levi's keto diet, but Levi serves it in return, reminding Kyle of the time he stuffed sausages down his pants. Kyle immediately pales, but Sheila grins and Clive encourages Levi to tell him and Roxy the whole story. Levi regales them with a tale of an Easter BBQ many moons ago where Kyle was only allowed to have three sausages max. So Kyle decided to stuff a few extras down his undies for later, not thinking how hot they'd be straight off the BBQ. Cue Kyle's embarrassment at having to dack himself to cool himself off. Everyone's laughing along with the story and Roxy and Sheila look like they're actually having a nice time in each other's company before Sheila turns away, remembering she's supposedly 'annoyed' with Roxy.
Ramsay Street
Aaron and David put the bins out and discuss Emmett. David says Emmett was like this when he first moved in, wanting to clean to make a good impression on them so they didn't send him back. Aaron doesn't think this is the case now because they've told Emmett heaps of times they want him to stay.
DAVID: I don't think saying it is ever enough. This is a kid who has experienced trauma in his formative years. His brain is hardwired for fear.
AARON: Yeah, it's hardly a way to live.
DAVID: That's why kids in care can be so quick to act out when they feel threatened.
Bea comes over to them because Aaron asked her for advice on Brent, which is news to David. Aaron thought it'd be good to chat with Bea because she's been through something similar, but David is frustrated because Aaron keeps forging ahead with an idea he's not entirely onboard with. Aaron encourages Bea to share, though.
BEA: Coming here changed my life. When I was on the streets it felt like everyone was out to get me, and usually they were. But moving into a stable home made me feel like I could breathe again.
AARON: See that's exactly what I want for Brent.
BEA: And I have to admit I did get fired from my gig last week for punching someone out, so I still have issues. But that was more Finn related. But honestly guys, Karl and Susan never made me doubt that they wanted me here. So if one of you isn't keen, don't do it, because it will really stuff him up.
Aaron and David look troubled.

The conversation has turned to how rough Frankston used to be when the Cannings lived there. Kyle says he's lucky his gran sent him to live in Erinsborough when she did, which makes Sheila look guilty. Roxy asks if something bad happened in Frankston and Kyle says that Levi had some sort of accident, but Levi says it was more than that.
LEVI: When I was a kid some guys broke into Gran's house and knocked me out.
ROXY: What, you were alone?
SHEILA: I was babysitting but I just ducked out to the corner shop to get some milk.
KYLE: (stunned) Why didn't you ever tell me this? Who did it?
LEVI: They were never caught, we never found out who they were.
KYLE: Well that's crazy. I can't believe you never said anything.
LEVI: It's not as if it would change anything.
ROXY: Hey, don't go all blokey and brush it off like it's nothing.
LEVI: It was hard. I had nightmares for a long time.
SHEILA: I didn't know that.
LEVI: They were pretty bad. I always thought they'd come back to get me. I used to walk past people and think, 'Was it him? Or was it him?'
SHEILA: Jackie should have told me that. She should have.
LEVI: I kept it to myself, and I've dealt with it.
He says the whole incident motivated him to become a police officer. Kyle wonders if he's ever thought about looking into the case again now he's on the force, but the conversation becomes too much for an emotional-looking Sheila and she excuses herself to go inside. Clive immediately goes after her leaving the rest of them concerned.
Number 26
Sheila's upset because she didn't realise just how affected Levi was by the whole ordeal. Clive says the break-in and attack weren't her fault, but Sheila says everything after it was. And to make matters worse, Levi thought that Kyle knew the true story. Clive thinks it's time Sheila told everyone just what really went on, she's been bottling things up for twenty years and it's hurting her.
Number 32 Backyard
David and Aaron get Emmett to stop cleaning the pool and ask him if he's only doing chores to prove he's a good kid. Emmett replies that they've done so much for them that he wanted to do something nice in return. Aaron reassures him that just because he got into trouble they're not going to ask him to leave, and David says they'll always be there to help.
EMMETT: You shouldn't worry about me, you should help Brent instead.
AARON: Why would you say that?
EMMETT: (to David) I heard you before with Kyle.
AARON: What were you talking about?
DAVID: I was worried that taking on two kids would be too much.
EMMETT: Yeah but, see, I can do my homework. I can do the cleaning. If I'm not a problem then you can easily take care of the both of us. Please?
David doesn't know what to say.
Number 26 Backyard
Clive joins Levi and Kyle in the yard, Kyle explaining that Roxy went home in case she was the one to set Sheila off. Clive says it had nothing to do with Roxy, Levi's story just left Sheila a bit emotional. Levi feels bad and states that Sheila shouldn't feel guilty, he's never blamed her for what happened. He adds that he's glad she wasn't home at the time or she would have been hurt too. Levi wants to go and clear the air with his gran but Clive says to leave her be for now, she's dealing with things at her own pace.
Number 32
David understands that Aaron wants Brent to stay but they can't confuse Emmett on the matter, they need to present a united front. Aaron agrees and tells David he loves him before calling Emmett in for a chat. They tell him that the whole situation with Brent is tricky and that he wasn't the best influence on Emmett while he was here. Emmett promises it won't happen again.
EMMETT: He always looks out for me.
DAVID: Sometimes he won't be able to.
EMMETT: If you let him stay I won't be bad anymore.
AARON: It's not up to us entirely, buddy. The agency would still have to approve Brent living here.
DAVID: They might not think that we're the right people to help him.
EMMETT: But no one else wants to. And he's scared. He doesn't say it but I can tell he is. It's not fair that I get to stay here and he has to live in resi. Can you at least ask Leila? Please? I'll do anything.
Aaron starts to apologise to Emmett, becoming surprised when David interrupts him to say they they'll look into it. Aaron asks if David's sure. David says no, but they can try. Emmett smiles at them.
Number 26 Backyard
Sheila joins the boys outside and says sorry for walking off, promising them she's fine now. She adds that of course, Cannings are made of tough stuff, but Kyle reminds her that she doesn't have to act tough all the time. Levi says it was actually quite sweet she got so upset about him.
SHEILA: I should have looked after you.
LEVI: I've never blamed you, Gran. Ever. You always were, and still are, my favourite grandmother.
He starts to make a toast to Sheila being the "heart of the family", but the guilt becomes too much for her.
SHEILA: Please don't! I don't deserve it. That attack wasn't random - they were there for Kyle.
Levi and Kyle are shocked by the admission.
