Number 30
Kirsha gets a warm welcome from everyone when she arrives home to see in the New Year (and to help celebrate Hugo's birthday). Toadie insists that Shane and Dipi go out to bring the bells in, he's got a night at home lined up with the kids - Nell is excited to stay up late to see the fireworks and eat pizza and ice-cream!
TOADIE: Pierce can't compete with that!
Number 32
Kyle is trying to keep the tears at bay by watching the cricket. Toadie arrives to see how things are going with Amy.
KYLE: She's moving to New York. On her own.
Toadie offers him his sympathy when Kyle confirms that they have broken up.
Lassiters Complex
Pierce is losing a battle to convince his son to join the bike club when Yashvi interrupts to see what the drinks arrangements are for the Hogmanay party Pierce is hosting at The Waterhole.
HENDRIX: Uh, isn't it BYO on New Year's Eve? I heard about your spew-nami!
YASHVI: One slip up and you're labelled for life!
HENDRIX: Oh, you slipped in it?! Yuk!
YASHVI: Don't you have some spiffy outfit that you need to buy for tonight?
HENDRIX: Nope, I'm not going.
YASHVI: Oh why? Is that because you're invited? I know you like to crash!
Hendrix's comeback is he likes a party with an "exclusive guest list" and this one doesn't tick that box. Once she's finished sparing with Hendrix, Pierce gives her an answer - there will be enough drink on offer to keep her happy. "We'll see you tonight," Pierce adds, sure that Hendrix will change his mind despite Yashvi thinking otherwise!
Once Yashvi leaves, Pierce tries to get his son to go to the party with her, but the lad isn't having any of it! Pierce is trying to sell it as a "new year, new you" but gets accused of being an "Instagram influencer" instead by his son! "You need to move on," Pierce tells his son, adding that he can't see past Chloe and its "killing you."
HENDRIX: This conversation is killing me.
PIERCE: I know it's hard alright, but you need to force yourself to look around. It's the only way you're going to be able to move forward.
The Waterhole
Hendrix follows his dad's advice to ask Yashvi, but she knocks him back as he's "a tool and I don't really like you." It would appear that he actually feels the same way towards her but tries to sell it as them hanging out together so not to look like "sad singles."
YASHVI: I would look sadder rocking up with you! Why don't you take your cat?
Meanwhile, Sheila takes a break from organising the party to have a chat with Gary over how Amy and Kyle are going. "They're not in a good way mum," Gary tries to tell her, but Sheila thinks her words of wisdom to Amy will have paid off.
GARY: I hope you got through because it's been a rough year for all of us and it would be a shame if nothing good came of it.
Harold's Café
Shane, Dipi and Kirsha pass silent looks between themselves as they watch Ned and Yashvi chat in the café (about the mural) when they run into each other.
"So, Ned..." Kirsha says to her sister when she joins them after finishing her chat with Ned. Yashvi reassures her family that she is simply friends with Ned. "I believe you believe that," Dipi says to her and worries that given the break up is so recent, that something might happen at the party. "You don't want to go down that road again," Shane warns his daughter as "it will only end badly."
YASHVI: That's not happening! I have a date.
KIRSHA: With whom?
YASHVI: Hendrix.
KIRSHA: Grayson?!
SHANE: What is with your taste in boys?!
"I wasn't asking for your opinion," Yashvi comments to her dad, she is doing as she was told and moving on!
Number 32
Toadie is doing his utmost to try and get Kyle to fight for Amy but is told that he doesn't want to talk nor wants company either, so asks Toadie to leave him alone. "Nah, not when you're like this," Toadie bluntly replies and goes to get the beers. "Does it look like I want to party mate?" Kyle angrily tells Toadie, then yells at him to "go away."
Lassiters Park
Toadie (and the kids) are sitting beside Sonya's tree and takes the opportunity to unload about Kyle and what a crap way it is "to end the year."
TOADIE: It's not getting any easier babe. I can deal with it better, but I still miss you like crazy. How do I start the New Year without you?
The Waterhole (exterior)
As they make their way to the bar, Chloe asks her husband if Hendrix will be okay with them all being in the bar at the same time. Pierce is sure things will be fine after their chat, but she warns its not the first time the lad has then done the complete opposite! "Trust me, I feel like this is going to be a great year," he says to his wife before checking in with Sheila how the arrangements are going (good).
Sheila tries not to gloat when Kyle sends her a text, but Gary reads more into it than she does (all it says is 'I'm fine.') and think it actually means the exact opposite.
SHEILA: Mark my word, and I'm never wrong, Kyle and Amy are back on track.
Number 32
And as we cut to #32 we still see Kyle full of self-pity now surrounded by pizza and beer. The intervention party arrives (Toadie) and he demands Kyle comes to #30 and sells it to him as wanting company for his "first New Year's Eve without Sonya."
TOADIE: And I thought I was okay but I'm not.
KYLE: Mate, I wouldn't be very good company.
TOADIE: I don't care. Everyone else has got plans and I just can't do tonight alone. So, can you please come and hang out with me and the kids. Please?
"Fine!" Kyle somewhat reluctantly replies on one condition - no talking about his feelings!
The Waterhole (exterior)
Everyone is gathered for the Hogmanay party and out in the beer garden, Shane and Dipi are sitting at a table with Gary and Sheila. Dipi is already dreading having to say goodbye to Kirsha again, even though the lass only arrived home earlier today! "The sad fact is they all do eventually," Gary remarks with Sheila adding that "they fly back with a flock of pigeons and a basket of dirty undies!"
Meanwhile, Hendrix tries not to gloat at Yashvi changing her mind about bringing the New Year in with him as they arrive for the party. "That's if I don't wring your neck first," she warns him back with and admits that she only agreed to go with him to shut her equally annoying dad up.
YASHVI: Rule 1, keep your hands off me! And rule 2, no lame pickup lines!
HENDRIX: Okay, chill! We're just hanging out. We're on the same page here.
Chloe is basking on the favourable comments that she is hearing after finishing talking to a couple. Pierce is happy too but was confident along they'd turn things round.
CHLOE: We're like the ultimate power couple!
After spotting Hendrix and Yashvi, Pierce calls them, "Erinsborough's newest power couple." Chloe thinks otherwise though as Yashvi is destined to be with Ned. Pierce thinks her 'cupidness' is off as things weren't happening and suggests that perhaps in the New Year, there will be "a new thing" - Yashvi and Hendrix.
Unseen by Hendrix and Yashvi, Ned arrives and after seeing them together, is already doing the maths!
Number 30
As they sit with the kids watching television, Toadie tells Kyle about Nell's determination to stay up to see the countdown but both seem sure she won't last until midnight! Kyle spots what Nell is drawing - fireworks with "mum watching in the sky."
KYLE: Your mum has the best view.
He then tells the little lass how he brought in New Year as a little kid (making a lot of noise bashing wooden spoons off pans) and suggests they do that tonight. Toadie readily agrees... as long as they don't annoy Mrs Punt to avoid "standing in front of her at kiss o'clock!"
"Don't be so hard on yourself," Toadie tells his friend as he begins to berate himself for Amy not wanting to have kids "with a total screw up."
TOADIE: You will find someone else to have a family with.
KYLE: I always thought of myself as top dad material. I don't know what I am.
The Waterhole (exterior)
Ned subtly tries not to watch as Yashvi and Hendrix talk about the year ahead - she is sure that Hendrix will be her first arrest when she becomes a cop! "If you're the cop, then maybe I'll have to get arrested," he jokes at which Yashvi screws her face up at that prospect, replying that "you wish mate!"
Someone else is watching the pair too - Shane and Dipi.
DIPI: Let me guess, you're wondering if this is better or worse than her being with Ned?
SHANE: The kid treated Mackenzie like dirt. I just want Yashvi's next guy to be good for her.
"It's just a date," Dipi tries to think of it as and points out that from where they are sat, they can see everything.
Ned has had enough of watching Yashvi and Hendrix and turns his attention instead of a single female that is at a nearby table. He goes over and they do the intros (we find out she is called Lara) and its now Yashvi's turn to be green with envy as she watches the pair chat!
The Waterhole (interior)
Hendrix runs into Chloe when he heads inside. He immediately goes to leave but she stops him to ask if they can talk. Hendrix consents to that and she keeps it neutral, talking about the party and his date for it, before thanking him for coming as it "means a lot to your dad."
CHLOE: I know its cliché, but New Year's does make you think about the big stuff. This reminded me where I was a year ago. I couldn't have imagined then where I'd be today.
Chloe then hands him her mobile so he can watch the vlog she made for Piper last Hogmanay. "I think it might help," she tells him before leaving so he can watch it alone. In it we hear her say that she wants "to focus on now to be a better sister, a better friend... basically a better person. Someone who doesn't obsess over things they can't change and people they can't be with."
The Waterhole (exterior)
Hendrix returns back to Yashvi and sees that she is watching Ned. He calls her a coward for not being willing to fight for Ned (since he likes her back).
HENDRIX: Are you going to give up on that?!
The passing Chloe is more than taking a keen interest in their conversation, as Yashvi points out to him the obvious - Ned is sitting "talking to some gorgeous girl." He isn't letting it drop though, saying to her that if she clicked her fingers, "that girl will be more of a loner than Harlow in two seconds!"
When Lara heads inside to get them drinks, Chloe sashays over to their table to point out to Ned that he is sitting at a table with the wrong girl!
NED: In case you hadn't noticed, she's with another guy.
CHLOE: Do you really think she'd move on that quickly?! And with Hendrix?!!!
"Maybe," an unsure Ned replies before adding that he "blew his shot" and doesn't want to ruin their friendship. Chloe is adamant that he is wrong but will be right if he "doesn't do something about it!"
CHLOE: You love her Ned. Go get her!
(Later)
Lara returns with drinks and she's barely put them down on the barrel table then Ned stands up and walks away and over to where Yashvi and Hendrix are! "I think I'll go," the lad wisely says, and she asks Ned if he's "having a lovely night?"
NED: No... 'cos I'm not with you. I was never happier than when I was with you. Never had more fun. I probably don't deserve your trust again, but I'm going to beg for it anyway! Here I am begging with my New Year's resolution - to be with you, the person that I love, so if you'll have me back, I'll make sure that no-one ever gets between us again. I want us to be forever.
We don't hear Yashvi's reply, instead we see the text Gary has sent Happy New Year mate! Hope this is a better year for you and Ames.
Number 30
And when we cut to #30, we see Kyle totally out for the count, asleep on the sofa with a pan on his head (Nell is asleep beside him)! With just a minute to go until 2020, Toadie doesn't have the heart to wake the pair of them up.
The Waterhole (exterior)
Pierce hurriedly hands out the sparklers to the revellers as the countdown to the bells begin. As the bells strike midnight, the champagne corks go flying and we see Ned and Yashvi pash! Hendrix doesn't run a mile either as he stands near to where Pierce and Chloe are dancing with each other.
Number 30
With Kyle still soundo, Toadie watches the video taken earlier of Nell, Hugo and Kyle wearing pans on their heads and bashing them with a wooden spoon to make a noise!
The Waterhole (exterior)
As the piano continues playing 'Old Lang Syne' we see Hendrix sashay over to the now lonesome Lara and offer to buy her a drink.
Number 30
After reading a New Year greeting from a fellow law firm, Toadie spots another email - one from Piper entitled 'Sonya's video' and the message that she thought he should have this. As the piano tinkles away in the background, Toadie opens the attachment and can see his (late) wife sitting in Harold's Café last Hogmanay.
Coming up on Neighbours
- Paul ranting off!
- Shane curious to know if Yashvi spent the night with Hendrix.
- Amy wanting to tell the Canning's something.
- Harlow demanding Paul tells her the truth.
