Number 28
Elly panics that Robert might be hiding somewhere but Finn reassures her that he's not. The pair of them stare in awe at the newborn baby. Finn asks if she still wants to call the baby Aster.
ELLY: Of course, it was Shaun's favourite flower. And that way your daddy will always be with you.
Elly and Finn look at each in amazement at what's just happened.
ELLY: Hi Aster. Hi baby.
Warehouse (exterior)
Ned tells Leo that the police have been called to Ramsay Street where Robert has taken someone hostage. Leo asks who but Ned replies that they wouldn't say, only that there had been no injuries. Leo starts to worry about David who is fading fast in his need for a kidney. Ned is skeptical about whether Robert would still donate his kidney anyway but Leo is keen to head back and know what's happening. He receives a phone call from Aaron.
AARON: His liver already couldn't take the stress so now the other organs are starting to fail.
Aaron tells Leo to get to the hospital as soon as possible.
Erinsborough Hospital
Aaron asks Paul if finding a kidney on the black market is still an option. Terese is shocked but Paul already has the ball rolling, hoping to get David moved to another facility soon; he says they just need another day or so to find a donor. Roxy guiltily encourages them to do whatever it takes to find a donor.
TERESE: This plan is insane.
PAUL: Well show me another way and I'll take it.
Harold's Café
Susan sings Bea's praises for her performance at the concert for the Sonya Rebecchi Foundation. They wonder how much money Toadie's raised and comment on how the increased amount of security didn't seem to put people off coming. Karl rushes in.
KARL: It's Elly. She was taken hostage by Robert. Robert took her hostage. It's ok, he's gone now, but she went into labour and had the baby in the house.
BEA: She what?!
KARL: Mercifully Finn was there to help her.
They hastily exit Harold's to go to the hospital.
Erinsborough Hospital
PAUL: I should have seen this coming because with Robert it is always personal and it is never ever over.
Leo arrives, looking extremely anxious about David's fatal condition. Paul says he needs to go in and see his brother.
DAVID: I know what's happening. They're out of options.
LEO: No, David, don't talk like this.
DAVID: It's OK to be scared.
LEO: No, David, stop.
DAVID: Leo...
LEO: We came into this world together. As a pair. I know I moved away, but...you've always been there for me. Please don't die...
DAVID: I'm ready. You should be too.
A tear runs down David's face.
Power Road
Robert is standing on Power Road in a hoodie, watching a civilian speak on the phone. As they put it back in their jacket pocket, he bumps into them as he walks past, swiping the phone. He stands round the corner and looks at the phone.
Erinsborough Hospital (exterior)
Roxy and Harlow have come outside.
ROXY: Maybe we should leave them alone for a bit, you know, give them some space.
HARLOW: It's all so sad.
ROXY: Yeah.
HARLOW: I would do anything to help.
Roxy looks guilty. Harlow receives a phone call. It's Robert. He asks to meet her but she's reluctant at first.
ROBERT: If you tell anyone, I'll be gone before you see me.
There is silence.
ROBERT: Harlow?
HARLOW: I don't know.
ROBERT: Please. This could be our last chance.
Erinsborough Hospital (exterior)
Harlow tells Roxy that Robert asked her to get him some money from an ATM. Roxy does everything in her power to dissuade Harlow from meeting her father but Harlow wonders if it might work in David's favour.
ROXY: Then I'll come with you, I can protect you, I can stay out of sight!
HARLOW: No, I can't risk spooking him.
ROXY: Just please don't do this!
HARLOW: I have to go, Roxy! For David...
ROXY: What if there was another way...?
HARLOW: There isn't...please, just cover for me with Paul and Terese.
Harlow leaves as Roxy watches in shock.
Erinsborough Hospital
Paul begins to panic after being told on the phone that it might be another 2 days before David can get a new kidney donor. He blames himself for wasting time doing a deal with Robert when he had no intention of donating in the first place, but Terese does her best to calm him down.
PAUL: Robert had his own agenda which was getting to me and like a fool I took the bait. And I gave David false hope.
Paul breaks down in tears. He says he doesn't want to watch his son die.
LEO: Dad, David's asking for you.
He walks into the hospital room and Aaron exits to give them some time alone.
DAVID: You don't look so good.
PAUL: David I'm so sorry, I failed you.
DAVID: No.
PAUL: I promised you were gonna be OK.
DAVID: You did everything you could.
PAUL: Yeah, but it wasn't enough. You deserve so much better David. A father who can protect you. Someone who is worthy of a son as special as you.
DAVID: Don't worry, I found him.
Paul breaks down.
PAUL: I'm so grateful for the time I've had with you.
Aaron watches tearfully through the window.
Containers (exterior)
HARLOW: Dad? Dad...?
Robert emerges from the shadows giving Harlow a fright. He's pleased to see she's on her own.
ROBERT: Thanks for coming.
HARLOW: Now what?
ROBERT: Did you tell anyone where you were going?
She shakes her head.
ROBERT: Did you have any trouble getting the money?
She holds up a bundle of notes.
HARLOW: Why'd you go after Elly?
ROBERT: She saw me following dad. She would have called the cops.
HARLOW: What, so you held her hostage?
ROBERT: I didn't hurt her.
HARLOW: Would you have done the same if this was granddad?
ROBERT: I wanted to show him he couldn't manipulate me. He thought he was being clever. He never would have gone through with the deal.
HARLOW: Yeah, of course he would have.
ROBERT: Dad takes from the world, he never gives. By putting me in that hospital it gave me a shot at freedom. It must be driving him mad.
HARLOW: You lied to me!
ROBERT: And for that I'm sorry. But now we have a chance at a proper relationship.
Harlow is completely disgusted that her father wants to go on the run and that he's willing to let his half-brother die.
HARLOW: If you turn yourself in and save David, I'll visit you every week. But if you go on the run, I'll never see you again. Your choice.
Robert looks genuinely upset.
Number 28
The Kennedys arrive home from hospital with Elly and the baby in tow. Elly apologises for how messy the living room is after her ordeal earlier but they tell her not to worry. Finn offers to take baby Aster off Karl's hands.
KARL: It's all under control. You just delivered a baby, Dr Kelly, you deserve to take a break!
FINN: That wasn't me, it was Elly; she was incredible.
Bea comments on how surprised the nurses were when Elly wanted to go home.
ELLY: I like the idea that she spends her first night with all the family (smiles).
Finn and Elly gaze at each other for a moment. The Kennedy family watch baby Aster make cute faces.
Erinsborough Hospital
Aaron is still with his dying husband.
AARON: You are the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. You know before I met you I was such a loser (laughs). Then you came along. The greatest guy that I've ever met. And you saw something different...you saw our future, the one we're meant to have together. I'm not giving up on you. I love you so much.
DAVID: I love you, Boo-boo.
Aaron cries over his dying husband. Roxy watches consumed by guilt. She pulls Terese aside.
ROXY: There's something I need to tell you.
Number 28
The Kennedys are still in awe of baby Aster. Bea jokes that Susan's hogging her. She asks if anyone's noticed that the baby has Shaun's eyes. Finn tells Elly that he's spoken to his mum and Elly asks what she said.
FINN: Finally, a girl!
There's a knock at the door and Elly looks triggered, but it's only Ned. He congratulates her but the subject soon changes to Robert; Susan asks if there's been any news on his whereabouts. Ned says there isn't and that it doesn't look good for David. Karl heads off to the hospital to see if there's anything he can do, after checking if Elly's ok with him going.
Erinsborough Hospital
Roxy has just told Terese about Harlow going to meet Robert. Understandably she's furious, before Paul asks what's going on and also loses his temper with her.
PAUL: Call the police! Robert was never going to give himself up. And now she's with him! Honestly...this is David's final moments!
ROXY: Well there is something I can do to help.. You see I...(hesitates) I...
Roxy is about to tell them she's a donor match, but in a state of anxiety she can't seem to get her words out. Just in the nick of time, Harlow walks in with Robert, who is handcuffed by some guards. Paul is speechless but looks angry.
PAUL: You...
Harlow steps in to defend her father.
HARLOW: He's going to donate his kidney. He's here to save David's life.
Roxy smiles in relief.
PAUL: Well get him down there to surgery now! Get him down there, quick!
Erinsborough Hospital (after the operation)
Karl comes in to talk about David's recovery post-operation. The news is good; there are no signs of rejection and the new kidney appears to be working. The family look relieved. Aaron comments that David looks better as every hour passes. Karl advises them to be patient and to get some rest but Aaron doesn't want to leave his husband's side. In another room, Roxy and Harlow are visiting Robert. He doesn't look that pleased.
HARLOW: The doctors said you've come through well. You know you did the right thing. David will be so grateful, we all are. How's the pain?
ROBERT: It's been a while since anyone cared enough to ask.
HARLOW: You know I meant what I said about visiting. I'll keep my word.
Harlow tells Robert that he'll be moved to the prison hospital for recovery. She says she'll see him soon and the staff take him. Harlow thanks Roxy for supporting her. Paul and Robert share eye contact as he goes past, but no words are exchanged. Paul still looks extremely unnerved in the presence of his criminal son.
Number 28
Bea asks Elly how she's settling in as a mum.
ELLY: This one keeps falling asleep during the feed.
Susan walks in and says that David's doing well after surgery. Elly replies that it's something to celebrate.
FINN: You mean another thing to celebrate! You just survived your first official night as a mum!
Elly says she didn't sleep that well as she kept waking up to check on Aster, before Bea offers to set up for breakfast outside. While alone, Finn holds the baby. It makes him feel closer to Shaun.
ELLY: Bea said that she's got Shaun's eyes. I don't know. I think maybe she has yours...Why did you come back yesterday?
FINN: I was worried.
ELLY: You saved us both. If you weren't here I don't know what would have happened.
FINN: I'll always be here.
ELLY: I like knowing that.
They gaze at each other, about to kiss.
