No 32
In the garden, Mark and Pierce's conversation continues, albeit we've skipped a vital part, it seems.

PIERCE: I know it's wrong, keeping Chloe in the dark, alright? But I dunno how she's going to react.
MARK: And you won't, until you tell her.
PIERCE: Yeah, but it's the kid stuff that got between her and Elly. And I don't want to risk losing her again.
MARK: The longer you leave it, the worse it's gonna be.

Chloe emerges from the house, and Mark beats a hasty exit. Chloe asks an awkward-looking Pierce what she's just interrupted.

PIERCE: There's something you need to know. I should've told you a long time ago.
CHLOE: Sounds ominous.

Pierce gets a text which consternates him even more; he tells Chloe he has to go, and rushes off, promising to call her tomorrow. Chloe looks confused.

Harold's Café
David, Aaron and Amy are hanging out. David tells Amy that he and Aaron are belatedly celebrating their first anniversary tomorrow by revisiting the winery from their honeymoon - as they both forgot the actual anniversary!

David seems to have convinced himself that Leo will be coming back to town once he's got his 'stuff sorted'. Amy expresses surprise at this; David admits he hasn't spoken to Leo again, but says Leo never said he wouldn't return.

David goes to pay the bill, and Aaron and Amy agree that David is being unrealistic about the prospect of Leo's return - his departure seemed pretty final, they think. They're worried that David is banking on something that likely won't happen.

The Waterhole
Mark is waiting at the bar to be served, but Roxy, who's on duty, is studiously ignoring him so as not to risk anyone seeing them talking! Sheila comes in and points out to Roxy that she has a customer. Sheila leaves again, and Roxy asks Mark what he wants.

MARK: I've been sitting here for ages. Why are you acting so weird?
ROXY: I'm being discreet - not showing obvious interest, to keep it on the DL.
MARK: Well, I think you might've taken it too far the other way. Can I have a pale ale, please?

Roxy fetches Mark a drink.

ROXY: So, I get off in an hour. Did you want me to come over?
MARK: I've got a bit to do tonight. I'll text you tomorrow.

Chloe comes in and joins Mark at the bar. She starts hectoring him for details of what he was talking to Pierce about. But Mark insists it's not his place; she needs to go and talk to Pierce herself. Chloe persists, asking if it was about Ebony and the phone call.

CHLOE: Just blink once for yes, and twice for no (...)
MARK: This is between you and your boyfriend. Go and speak to him.

No 28
Finn is at the table when Karl comes in, having stocked up on cheap hash browns from a discount supermarket. Bea comes in, on the phone to Elly in Sydney. She finishes up the call, and tells Karl that Elly has gone to a support group for single mothers, that Liz located for her.

FINN: Sounds like she's enjoying the break. Still weird how she left so quickly, though. I guess it was the break-up and Chloe rebounding. It got to Elly more than she was letting on.
BEA: ... Yeah.
FINN: Mind you, she doesn't need that support group (...) There is a father in the picture.
BEA: But Shaun isn't here or Sydney.
FINN: Well, he could be. I know he'd like to be doing more.
BEA: It's between Shaun and Elly.

Finn reluctantly agrees, and goes for a shower. Karl, who has been listening with concern, remarks that Bea doesn't seem to have told Finn the real reason Elly left for Sydney - him.

BEA: I'm just being selective with the truth (...) The last thing I want is for everything to blow up because I've stuck my nose in.

The Waterhole
The next morning, Finn and Bea come in for breakfast. David is at the bar, and while Bea grabs a table, Finn asks David how he's bearing up since Leo left. David says it's not a big deal; Leo will be back soon enough. He promises to see Finn at their next session.

As David leaves, Finn gets a call from Shaun.

FINN: That's not cool - I'll talk to her... Mate, I've gotta say something... Just leave it with me.

Ending the call, Finn heads to the table where Bea is. He reports that Shaun has been trying to call Elly, but that she isn't answering. Finn thinks that Bea should call Elly, to let her know that Shaun is worried. Bea says she's not getting involved, and turns her attention to the menu.

Greyson Towers
Chloe arrives at Pierce's house, and finds the door open so walks on in.

CHLOE: Pierce? We really need to talk about last night.

It's not Pierce who emerges, however, but a teenage boy, wearing nothing but a towel.

BOY: Something tells me I'm not the guy you're after!
CHLOE: Who the hell are you, and what are you doing in Pierce's house?
BOY: He hasn't told you about me? Oh. Big surprise (!)
CHLOE: Who are you?
BOY: I'm Hendrix Greyson. Pierce is my dad.

Cue Chloe's shocked face. Shortly afterwards...

CHLOE: How can Pierce have a son?
HENDRIX: Well, when a mummy and a daddy love each other very much, they - -
CHLOE: How old are you?
HENDRIX: How old do you want me to be?
CHLOE: ...
HENDRIX: Hey, d'you know where he keeps the hard stuff? We should have a Scotch, get to know each other.
CHLOE: Can you stop messing around?
HENDRIX: Did you meet Dad last night, or are you one of his long-term, two-week relationships?
CHLOE: I'm Chloe.
HENDRIX: Oh, right. Did he take you to the snow once - -or was that Kayla? Or Kerry?
CHLOE: Apparently you know a lot more about his love-life than I know about you.
HENDRIX: I'm not surprised. He does his best to pretend we don't exist.
CHLOE: We? There are more of you?
HENDRIX: Yeah. I have a little sister.
CHLOE: Is she about to spring out at me too?
HENDRIX: No, she's in Sydney with Mum.
CHLOE: I take it your dad has left for work.
HENDRIX: The classic clichéd way to avoid family mess.
CHLOE: I need to find him.
HENDRIX: Wait. Let me put some clothes on, and I'll come with you.

The Waterhole
Finn has gathered that there's more to why Elly left than Bea is telling him. Bea admits she and Elly had an argument before Elly left.

FINN: About what?
BEA: ... Well, she said it wasn't the reason why she had to go.
FINN: But you think it was part of it? Bea, what did you argue about?
BEA: You! And the fact that she didn't take you to the birthing classes.
FINN: I told you not to worry about that!
BEA: I know, I know. But I was just so frustrated, and she was just being unfair.
FINN: And now she's so uncomfortable she leaves town, just to avoid me?
BEA: You're not the only reason. Between Chloe and Shaun...
FINN: ... who I've been pushing to involve more with the baby.
BEA: Look, none of this is on you.
FINN: Isn't it?

Harold's Café
Chloe and Hendrix come in to find Pierce at a table; he's perturbed to see they've met. Chloe demands to know when Pierce was planning to tell her he had kids.

PIERCE: I'm sorry, okay? I wanted to explain properly.
CHLOE: You had plenty of chances. Why didn't you?
HENDRIX: Yeah, I'm wondering that, too. You know, fun as it is, being your dirty secret.
PIERCE: Can you just give me a second to talk to Chloe?
HENDRIX: ... Yeah, sure, talk to your hot girlfriend. It's not like I haven't seen you in two years (!)

Pierce doesn't reply, so a hurt Hendrix leaves them to it.

CHLOE: You made it clear you want something serious with me. You didn't think maybe you should fill me in on the small detail that you're a father of two?
PIERCE: The truth is that... they're not a big part of my life. Their mother prefers it that way.
CHLOE: Great, blame the woman. Of course (!)
PIERCE: I'm not blaming anyone, okay? I was just so young. I was only eighteen when Hendrix was born. And Lisa, his mum - she was older. She actually knew what she was doing. She told me that she didn't need me, and that I should go off and live my life. I was too young to know any better. Believe me, I know that was a mistake now.
CHLOE: You still should've told me. Did Ebony know?
PIERCE: Not until recently - just before I proposed.
CHLOE: I suppose I should be relieved I'm not the only one you hide major life info from
PIERCE: I was ashamed, you know? I was an absent father. And when I tell people, they ask questions, and it only makes me feel worse. I should never have kept it from you, and I'm really, really sorry.

Pierce then gets a call from Hendrix's mum, Lisa. Chloe remarks that Hendrix 'seems like quite a handful'.

The Waterhole
Sure enough, Hendrix is trying to convince Sheila to serve him a beer.

HENDRIX: I left my ID right outside in my Porsche, I swear.
SHEILA: You don't say (!)

Pierce comes in and tells Sheila that Hendrix is his son, and seventeen - although...

PIERCE: ... he may lie with the confidence of someone twice his age.

Sheila is shocked by the revelation that Pierce has a son and awaits an explanation, but Pierce and Hendrix go and sit at a table.

PIERCE: I just had a very interesting conversation with your mother.
HENDRIX: Missing me already, is she?
PIERCE: She had no idea you were coming down to Melbourne.
HENDRIX: I wanted to surprise you.
PIERCE: Yeah. She also told me you got kicked out of school.
HENDRIX: It's no big deal.
PIERCE: It's academic fraud. It's a very big deal. But especially at a school like Northbridge Grammar.
HENDRIX: Everyone does it. Why do your own homework when you can pay someone else? It's free-market capitalism at work - that should be right up your alley.
PIERCE: Hendrix, this is the fourth school in five years that you've been expelled from! How are we gonna get you into a decent school with that kind of record?
HENDRIX: It doesn't matter. I'm done with school.
PIERCE: Yeah, we'll see. Your mother wants you on the first plane home.
HENDRIX: Of course you want to get rid of me the second I show up.
PIERCE: It's not my call. Lisa made the decision.
HENDRIX: Oh, stop being such a pushover. Tell her you want me to stay here... Unless, uh, you really do want me to go.
PIERCE: ... I'll ring her, and I'll see if I can buy you a couple of days, okay? And in the meantime, you need to stop harassing Ebony.
HENDRIX: It was a couple of friendly messages.
PIERCE: No, it was harassment! I had to get legal advice! It's not a joke to her - think about it.
HENDRIX: Fine.

No 32
David tells 'Boo-Boo' off for packing so much for their anniversary - they're only going for a couple of days. Amy comes in; she's just come off the phone to Jimmy's dad, Liam, in New York. Apparently Leo has turned up there. David is happy to hear that Leo's spending time with family - so he can get his head together and then come home.

AMY: No, he's staying. That's what he told Liam. He's not planning on coming home.
DAVID: What? That can't be right.

David starts looking for his phone - he wants to book a flight to New York!

AARON: What?!
DAVID: I'm gonna go see him and talk to him, and I'll bring him home.
AMY: Okay - just wait a minute and think about this.

But David won't listen to reason, and starts booking a ticket...

No 24
Chloe and Mark are chatting about Pierce's revelation, which Pierce told Mark about the night before. He explains that apparently, Hendrix has been harassing Ebony on social media and with prank calls.

CHLOE: Why would he do that?
MARK: To get his dad's attention? Which he has.

Chloe says Pierce has invited her to have coffee with him and Hendrix, but she isn't sure she wants to go. Mark says avoiding them isn't going to help.

CHLOE: Can you stop being so reasonable? It is *very* irritating.
MARK: I'm your big brother. It's my job.

So Chloe decides to suck it up and go and meet them. However, as she goes to leave, there's a knock on the door. She opens it - it's Roxy, doing her best to look seductive, but evidently not expecting Chloe to be there! Mark looks sheepish, as Roxy comes up with an excuse for being there.

ROXY: ... Did you have a cup of sugar that I could borrow?
MARK: Yes - sugar, yep.

He goes to oblige.

CHLOE: You bake?!
ROXY: Oh, no, no! I'm just making some sugar syrup for my morning mojito!
CHLOE: Ah! Girl can't be drinking straight rum at this hour, right?
ROXY: You know it!

Mark gives her the sugar, and Chloe follows Roxy out, oblivious to what's going on!

The Waterhole
Chloe is having coffee with Pierce and Hendrix; she explains to Hendrix on enquiry that she's a PA to the general manager at the hotel.

HENDRIX: And how long have you two been together? This time around, I mean.
PIERCE: Hendrix - you're being rude.

Feeling awkward, Chloe goes to order them some pastries.

PIERCE: Please stop it, mate. You're deliberately trying to make Chloe feel uncomfortable.
HENDRIX: I was showing interest. Oh - you don't know what that looks like, do you? I've gotta say, though - top work bagging such a hottie.
PIERCE: Don't speak about her like that. Hendrix... I don't get it. You're mad at me cos I'm not the father you wanted - but screwing up your own life? Acting like you don't care? It doesn't hurt me. It only hurts you.
HENDRIX: Whatever you reckon.

But Hendrix is looking hurt again. Chloe returns with some pains au chocolat, and Hendrix gets a call from one of his mates.

HENDRIX: Nope, they expelled me... Yeah, shattered!

He walks off, and Pierce apologises for his behaviour, saying it's not about Chloe.

CHLOE: How comforting (!)
PIERCE: You okay? Are we okay?
CHLOE: I'm not upset that you have kids. I get that family stuff can be messy. I mean, my relationship with my dad was a disaster.
PIERCE: You're just upset I didn't tell you sooner?
CHLOE: You didn't tell me at all! I had to come face-to-face with your spoilt brat offspring!
PIERCE: It's not what I wanted... I couldn't have handled this any worse, could I?

Chloe doesn't correct him.

No 32
Aaron and Amy are still trying to talk David down from booking a flight to New York. Eventually, Aaron just takes the phone off him. He says they need to give Leo space to work things out for himself.

DAVID: No, I have to do something! Leo can't be gone. And I know he made it clear - but it's easier for me to believe that he's on a holiday, and not gone for... He's always been here! Even when I didn't want him to be. And even though he's been driving me crazy lately... I'd still go through it all again. But this time, I'd listen to him, not fob him off.

David is becoming very emotional, and Amy says no-one could've changed Leo's mind; she misses him too. This calms David down a bit, and he apologises for 'acting like the only one who cares'. Aaron suggests they go and visit Leo at Christmas instead.

DAVID: Sounds good... This sucks.

Aaron comforts a very upset David.

No 28
Finn admits to Karl that Bea told him why Elly left. Karl says there were a number of factors.

FINN: Including me wading in - pushing Shaun's case. And just me being who I am.
KARL: You know, I think you're being a bit hard on yourself. You haven't done anything to give Elly any concerns.
FINN: Yet still, she runs a mile just to put some distance between us. I can deal with how she feels about me, but it's Shaun that I worry about. She hasn't even given him a chance.
KARL: A bit of advice (...) You're not in Elly's shoes - none of us are. She's making the best decision she can for herself and her child.
FINN: Yeah, but it's Shaun's baby, too!
KARL: Yeah. Well, that's something for the two of them to work out. You just have to be patient.

Greyson Towers
Hendrix is hanging out on the patio, when Chloe turns up, and asks if Pierce is home. He says he's at a meeting in The City™.

HENDRIX: You look disappointed. You'll get used to that. You, uh, want me to pass on a message?
CHLOE: Yeah. Can you tell him I want to talk to him about earlier? You know what, actually, I will just text him myself.

She's about to go, but Hendrix stands up and approaches Chloe.

HENDRIX: Hang on a sec. How much younger than him are you?
CHLOE: None of your beeswax, kid.
HENDRIX: Dad seems pretty hooked. Maybe we should try and get along. Congrats, by the way... I guess he's a catch.
CHLOE: I'm not with him for his money, if that's what you think.
HENDRIX: I wasn't calling you a gold-digger. You actually seem fun. And is 'ballsy' still a compliment?
CHLOE (laughs): In certain circles... I should go.

But Hendrix puts a hand on her shoulder, disconcerting Chloe.

HENDRIX: Hey... I like messing with people. But you and me - we could be cool... I'll see you soon.

He returns to sit down, and Chloe looks at him with concern, before leaving. After she's gone, Hendrix allows himself a mischievous smile.
