Lassiter's Complex
Happy-looking extras are walking past The Waterhole. The colour fades to grey, and there's a gunshot noise, before a quick cut to black. A caption appears, which says 'Earlier that day...'
Lassiter's
In Delaney's room, Leo and Delaney are mid-row.
DELANEY: Leo, if you love Terese, then why did you spend the night? Why would you give me hope?
LEO: You forced me into this relationship! And, sure - for a second there, I thought maybe it could work.
DELANEY: That's cos you have Feelings™ for me.
LEO: I care about you.
DELANEY: And you can turn that into love.
LEO: Look, spending more time together is not gonna change the way I feel about Terese.
DELANEY: Right. Well, I'm gonna tell the cops what your dad did to me.
LEO: I was hoping you wouldn't do that.
DELANEY: Why wouldn't I?!
LEO: Because you're still the Delaney I knew back in Sydney. You wouldn't want to hurt me like that!
DELANEY: Well, what about me?! You're hurting me! I'm gonna have to go back to living with my dad, and I hate that world! I hate it (...) Once I go back there, my dad's gonna control me.
LEO: You are the one in control here, not your dad. You're not a little girl anymore.
Leo walks out of the room, leaving Delaney in tears.
Paul's Penthouse
Leo is telling Paul that he's ended things with Delaney. Paul is annoyed as he now faces the prospect of Delaney telling the police about Mannix, but Leo thinks there's still a chance she'll keep quiet, as she's terrified of her dad. However, they both know that this is by no means guaranteed.
PAUL: Leo, what can I do? I am responsible for Mannix's death.
LEO: Well, is it time to start talking to lawyers?
Jane comes in, interrupting them - she's been clothes shopping for her new role assisting with Robinson Pines. Once she's left them again to take her bags into the bedroom, Paul tells Leo to leave Delaney to him.

Chloe is about to head out to buy hiking boots for her South America trip. Mark and Aaron remind her to be back in time for Fay's hospital appointment; David had to pull a lot of strings to get it. Fay insists she's okay to go alone, but her kids insist they're coming to support her.
Fay suggests that if Chloe is missing the wedding, she should at least help by picking up Mark's suit for him, which is due for collection. Mark replies that Chloe has too much on planning for her trip. Chloe looks awkward.
Lassiter's
Paul turns up at Delaney's room for a chat, and finds her still crying. He adopts a conciliatory tone, insisting that neither he nor Leo are getting any pleasure out of the break-up.
DELANEY: Well, he chose Terese over your freedom, and his neck.
PAUL: Let me tell you a story.
DELANEY: Oh, you're gonna tell me a story? More like I should be telling the cops a story!
PAUL: It's about loving someone who doesn't love you back. Based on personal experience. You see, even old fellas like me get our hearts broken... I loved a woman for the longest time. Unfortunately, she didn't feel the same way about me. In fact, she met someone else. Someone very, very close to me (...) I put up a hell of a fight. I pulled out every dirty trick in the book. But then I came to realise, you can't make someone love you.
DELANEY: Okay - so you're making this up so I keep my mouth shut.
PAUL: No, I wish I was. Anyway, the good news is, I came out the other side. You see, Delaney, there's a whole wide world of possibilities out there, just waiting. Especially when you're working for Lassiter's. And by that, I mean, any hotel, anywhere in the world - London, Dubai, New York, wherever.
DELANEY: I don't want a job.
PAUL: I'm talking about a fresh start (...) as far away from your father as you want. But you know, if you blow the whistle on me and Leo, nobody wins - including you.
He leaves her to think about his offer.

Susan is enjoying putting the boot into Karl by playing 'Free as a River' for Bea, and they both enjoy a good long laugh at his expense.
BEA: Oh, it's just so nice that Karl wants to do a duet with me.
SUSAN: You know, you are allowed to say no to him. I do it all the time!
BEA: Okay. Maybe I'll let him down gently. I'll tell him he's too big for The Waterhole.
SUSAN: Oh, he will *love* that! It's nice to see you laughing, too.
BEA: Well, Karl is hilarious!
Conversation moves onto the fact that Susan is keeping her contact with Finn's brother Shaun a secret from Karl. Susan's been trying to work out why she feels so compelled to see Shaun - she thinks it's because they both carry guilt about Finn. But she's decided that she needs to put her health first, so is planning to post back the letter that Shaun gave her, that Finn wrote to their mum.
SUSAN: It's his personal property. It doesn't feel right to hold onto it.
BEA: Yeah. And then no more contact with Shaun after that?
SUSAN: No - no, not from me. I won't be here. But you know he's gonna be hanging around?
The Waterhole
Paul and Leo are discussing Paul's offer to Delaney - they resolve to wait and see what she decides. In the meantime, Leo says he's going to talk to Terese, to try and make things right.
LEO: I'll just tell her Delaney was threatening me. She knows I informed on the Renshaws, so it'll make sense.
PAUL: Yeah. Even so, I don't want you getting your hopes up about her taking you back.
LEO: I know I've got a lot of making up to do, alright? But I have to try.
Paul looks doubtful.

Terese is in business mode in her office, when Paul arrives, wanting to talk about the other night. She tells him to forget it ever happened.
PAUL: Terese, you all but propositioned me. I need to know whether you meant it.
TERESE: Did Jane pick up on something?
PAUL: This isn't about Jane.
TERESE: Alright. Well, I guess it's worse if I let you think that I was being sincere (...) I was testing you. I got it in my head that you must've hired Delaney just to tempt Leo away from me (...) I thought you wanted me back. So I pretended to want you, to be sure. But you shut me down.
We can tell from Paul's reaction that he doesn't really believe her, and thinks she's trying to save face.
PAUL: Oh, Terese. Look, I know this has been a very difficult time for you.
TERESE: Yeah, well, I'm truly happy for you and Jane... You are happy, aren't you?
PAUL: Oh, very.
TERESE: Good. Well, it's settled, then.
PAUL: What about your Feelings™ for Leo.
TERESE: I don't think that that's any of your business.
PAUL: Just have an open mind when it comes to him, okay?
Paul leaves, and Terese looks rattled.

Fay wonders aloud whether the painkillers she's taken for her headache will affect the Huntington's test - Mark says it's not on the list of things to avoid. Fay asks if he's okay about Chloe missing the wedding - noting that she is 'forever putting herself first', even before her diagnosis.
MARK: This isn't her being selfish. I mean, maybe it is, a little bit. I just don't think she realises what it means to me.
FAY: Then tell her!
MARK: I know. But if I ask her to stay, she might feel obligated to say yes. And if she says no, then she'll feel worse about leaving.
FAY: But if you say nothing, you'll regret it. And who knows - she may surprise you.

Bea is looking through a pile of letters when Toadie comes in, looking for Sonya and the kids - they're outside in the garden saying goodbye to Susan before her Sydney trip. Or in other words, Not In This Episode™. Before he goes to find them, Bea asks Toadie his view about Shaun, and his motivations for making contact with them.
TOADIE: Whatever Shaun's angle is, you don't have to worry about it.
As Toadie leaves, Bea looks pensively at one of the envelopes in her hand - it's the letter that Susan is returning to him. It has Shaun's mobile number on it...
The Waterhole
Leo tells Terese that he's broken things off with Delaney.
TERESE: And what would you like me to do with that information?!
LEO: I know it's a lot to ask, and I don't deserve it. But... I love you. I've never stopped loving you. Would you please give me another chance?
Unseen by them, Delaney has come in during this, and overheard the crucial words. She storms out again, upset.
TERESE: Are you serious?!
LEO: I know I've hurt you, alright? And I hate myself for that. But there are reasons.
TERESE: Yeah, which I asked you repeatedly - and you never told me.
LEO: I can tell you now. You just have to listen.
TERESE: It's too late!
LEO: Terese, I love you.
TERESE: If you loved me, you would never have put me through this.
She walks away.

Delaney enters her hotel room - to find her father, Raymond, sitting on her bed.
RAYMOND: Hello, Bunny Rabbit!
DELANEY: Dad.
RAYMOND: We've been waiting for you.
DELANEY: We?
Her uncle Ivan emerges from the bathroom.
RAYMOND: Come here and give your old man a hug.
Delaney looks scared.
RAYMOND: Come on, sweetheart.
She obeys reluctantly, but looks terrified...

As Fay and Aaron wait in the car to go to the hospital, Mark asks for a word with Chloe about the wedding.
MARK: I've tried to make peace with it. But if I'm being completely honest - I don't want you to miss the wedding. Our family should be together after everything we've been through this year, including your health.
CHLOE: That's why I want to go away. To trek the Inca Trail while I'm still well enough to do so. It could be my only chance.
MARK: It could be your only chance to see me get married!
CHLOE: If you don't stuff it up!
MARK: I won't. Not this time. Elly's The One™. And you being there would mean just as much to her. She loves you. Obviously - she made you her bridesmaid. And I know you love her. Stay - for us.
CHLOE: I'm sorry, but... I just can't do it. Let's not keep Mum waiting.
Mark looks disappointed.

In Delaney's hotel room, Raymond asks Uncle Ivan to give him some time alone with Delaney. Ivan obeys.
RAYMOND: I thought you'd be happy to see your old man?
DELANEY: I am, Dad.
RAYMOND: Well, why the face like a wheatmeal biscuit, then?
DELANEY: I just... I wasn't expecting you.
RAYMOND: You knew I was up for parole.
DELANEY: Well, I wasn't sure you were gonna get it.
RAYMOND: Well, your mum had faith, didn't she? She was there waiting for me. She's been beside herself since you left Mallorca.
Raymond reveals that he tracked Delaney down through her credit card statements.
RAYMOND: You've been giving it a fair whack, too, haven't you? Why Melbourne?
DELANEY: Why not?
RAYMOND: Well, I hope you had a good holiday. Cos it's time to get to work.
Delaney looks terrified.
The Waterhole
Leo is working on his tablet. Jane comes in, and goes to talk to Terese by the bar. Jane has heard about Leo splitting up with Delaney, and tells Terese that she is far too good a woman for him. Terese admits that she isn't always 'that good'.
TERESE: In fact, there's something that I need to tell you.
Lassiter's
In Delaney's room, Raymond is now sitting on the bed with Delaney. He's telling her about the plans he has to resurrect his bar empire in Sydney - and tells her she's going to be running one of them. Delaney looks horrified, but gets a phone call and says she has to take it. Raymond takes the phone off her, and sees that it's Paul Robinson calling. Delaney says Raymond doesn't know him.
RAYMOND: No, I don't know him. But I know his son. And so do you - Leo Tanaka. You see, I've got eyes and ears everywhere, Bunny Rabbit. You should know that.
DELANEY: Dad, I didn't lie to you. I just -
RAYMOND: (...) But you didn't tell me the truth either, did you? Now, why don't we start again? What are you doing in Erinsborough?
DELANEY: I came to see Leo.
RAYMOND: Why?
DELANEY: When he was working at the club, I fell for him.
RAYMOND: You were seventeen years of age!
DELANEY: But nothing ever happened!
RAYMOND: Did he touch you?
DELANEY: No, he didn't touch... I just thought that if I came here when I was older, maybe something would happen. But I was wrong.
RAYMOND: What about Mannix Foster?
DELANEY: What about him?
RAYMOND: He rats me out to the cops, and then he's down in Erinsborough as well, hey? Mannix, Leo - this is a busy part of the world! Am I missing something, Bunny?
Delaney tries to change the subject, but Raymond isn't having it - and demands she tell him everything, so that he can 'make it alright'.
Ramsay Street
Karl is loading up the car, preparing to take Susan to the airport for her MS trial in Sydney. Susan hugs Bea goodbye, and states her intention to put the letter to Shaun in the postbox on the way, saying they can now put Shaun out of their minds. But Bea has already written down Shaun's number from the envelope - and before Susan's car is out of the cul-de-sac, Bea is calling him...
BEA: Shaun?... It's Bea, Susan Kennedy's niece - we met earlier today... I'd like to see you again.
Lassiter's
Delaney is begging an angry Raymond not to hurt Leo. It's unclear how much she's told him.
RAYMOND: There has to be consequences. Behaviour like Leo's has to be made an example of.
DELANEY: No, Dad, Dad - I love him. I'm begging you - please!
RAYMOND: Hey, you're embarrassing yourself!
Raymond calls Ivan, who is in the hotel lift.
RAYMOND: When you see him, get him alone, alright? We can't have any witnesses.
IVAN: I know what needs to be done.
He pulls out a gun and cocks it, before exiting into the ground floor. Meanwhile, a frightened Delaney tries to escape the hotel room, but Raymond flings her onto the bed.
RAYMOND: No you don't! You're not going anywhere!
Lassiter's Complex
We have now caught up to the beginning of the episode, and see the same scene of the extras happily walking past The Waterhole door.
The Waterhole
Piper is with Terese, helping her with some photography for a business networking event that's being held in the pub. Toadie is randomly milling around, while at the bar, Paul and Leo discuss what Delaney's next move might be. Leo says he tried to speak to Terese, but thinks he picked the wrong moment.
PAUL: If you truly want something, you fight for it, okay? Do not give up.
Leo resolves to try again with Terese. Meanwhile, Paul goes to talk to Jane who has also turned up, telling her she looks absolutely beautiful.
JANE: And is there anything else you'd like to say? ... About how Terese propositioned you?
Paul looks sheepish. Meanwhile, Leo attempts to talk to Terese again, who's going through some paperwork at the bar. Unnoticed by them, Ivan is sitting at a table, watching them twitchily.
TERESE: Now's not the time.
LEO: Then when is?
TERESE: When I'm ready. And frankly, I don't know if I ever will be.
LEO: Look, all this Delaney stuff - I didn't have a choice.
TERESE: Oh, what - did somebody hold a gun to your head?
LEO: Please, just let me explain.
TERESE: I don't want to hear it. I'm sorry - I've got work to do.
At that moment, Ivan stands up, pulls out the gun and points it at Leo. Terese screams Leo's name, and steps in front of him, shielding him as Ivan fires the gun! Terese is hit, and both she and Leo fall to the floor - as the extras dart for the exit, and Paul looks on in horror...
