There's a small update to the opening titles today, as Xanthe is removed and we see an amended shot of just Sheila and Gary with the car.

Amy and Gary's conversation continues in the garden. Gary tries to reason with Amy, suggesting she needs some more time to think. But she insists she's made her decision, using the appearance of the crim earlier as justification - she doesn't want to be put in that kind of position anymore. Gary insists he's renounced his criminal ways, but Amy is unmoved.

AMY: I'm going to New York tomorrow - that was always the plan. But then the theft at Robinson Heights happened, so...
GARY: Well, how long will you be away?
AMY: A few weeks.
GARY: Well, that's good, for you and Jimmy (...) and Ames, maybe it'll be good for us too? We'll spend some time apart, give us a chance to regroup.
AMY: When I get back... I'm moving out.
GARY: Amy...

She tearfully gets up and leaves.

Aaron and David are tidying the house in preparation for the arrival of Fay. Chloe comes in, remarking that they've 'gone full-scale Mum prep'. Aaron sarcastically thanks her for her help!

CHLOE (not sorry): Sorry!
Aaron tells Chloe that if she's worried about telling Fay about the Huntington's diagnosis on her own, they can all do it together. But Chloe replies that she has no intention of telling Fay yet.

CHLOE: It's my disease, and I'm not ready.
AARON: You really think you can keep this from her?
CHLOE: It's not your problem, so butt out!

Ramsay Street
Sonya is out with Hugo and the pram. Karl spots her and says he'd been meaning to pop over; he just wants to check in on how she is health-wise following the Heather/poisoning incident. Sonya admits she's still getting a few stomach pains here and there, and isn't eating much. Karl says it's to be expected, but asks her to pop into the hospital tomorrow for a check-up. Sonya agrees.

Meanwhile, Mark arrives with Fay, having picked her up from the airport. She's gushing about how nice it is to see her kids thriving; Aaron owning a business, Mark engaged, Tyler enjoying travelling in Asia, and Chloe out of trouble - at least for now. Fay asks Mark if he's thought any more about going back to the police force. He says it's his New Year's resolution. Fay encourages him to be proactive.

No 24
Aaron and Chloe are greeting Fay in the house. Fay's looking forward to hearing about Mark's wedding, opining that he and Elly belong together. Chloe looks awkward. Fay asks if Aaron and Chloe have any news. Aaron looks awkward, but says nothing; and Chloe announces she's going to Peru! Fay's surprised Chloe can afford it - Chloe says she has savings now she's paid her debts to Fay.

FAY: Although, I'm still astounded how you paid me back so quickly, and in such hefty sums!

Chloe says she was just 'killing it at work' and had some massive bonuses. Fay looks sceptical, but Chloe distracts her by asking her how her cruise with Tyler went. They head out of the room, as Fay tells Chloe how the cruise restaurant manager thought she and Tyler were a couple! Once they're gone, Mark and Aaron exchange a worried glance.

Toadie tells Sonya he's just finished the paperwork for their custody application for Hugo.

TOADIE: But before I send it off, I just want to check that you're sure.
SONYA: Oh, yeah. I mean, I'm sure I want to go ahead with it. I just don't know if Andrea will agree.
TOADIE: Well, we're not gonna let that stop us, are we?
SONYA: Well, then - send it off!

Mark turns up; he wants to talk to Toadie about appealing his dismissal from the police force. Sonya is excited for him, but Toadie doesn't think it will be easy. Sonya says Mark's the kind of guy who really cares about what he does, and they need that kind of person protecting the community. So Toadie agrees to look into it for him. Mark says he'd be happy to do anything in return.

TOADIE: If you ever do get back in uniform, you can track down Heather and bring her to justice (...) It's all the thanks we need.

No 26
Amy is hanging out the washing when Dipi turns up to see her. She explains she's come around the back so as not to let Shane see her knocking at the front door. Dipi asks after Gary; Amy says she hasn't seen him today. But then Sheila bursts out of the house, asking Amy if it's true that she's breaking up with Gary.

AMY: Sheila, I'm sorry, but this is none of your business.

Dipi leaves to give them some space.

SHEILA: Look, Gary can be an idiot sometimes - he waltzes down these dark paths and, before he knows where he is, he's gone and done something stupid like crash-tackling a neighbour!
AMY: And working for the people who stole from my construction site!
SHEILA: Yeah, but he's got a big heart - you know that! I mean, you are so good for him. You're good together!
AMY: I'm good on my own, too.

Sheila begs Amy, reminding how good mates she and Gary were before they got together.

SHEILA: Are you sure you're ready to give up on something that special?

Lassiter's Lake
Mark and Elly are jogging. Elly encourages Mark over his plans to rejoin the police force; but Mark doesn't want to get his hopes up yet. He's also keen for Bea not to know, as he doesn't want her worrying about the garage. Elly agrees to keep it quiet. Conversation turns to Chloe; Mark's frustrated that she won't tell Fay about her diagnosis. Elly says she's sure she will when she's ready.

Mark points out that Chloe lied about how she paid Fay back too, having not mentioned Pierce or the escort work. Elly gets a text from Amy, and says she needs to go, before rushing off.

Lassiter's Complex
Amy is telling Elly about the breakdown of her relationship with Gary, saying she can finally see how the relationship looks from her dad's perspective. Elly's baffled, as what happened with Dipi was an accident; Amy admits there's more to it, which doesn't reflect well on Gary.

AMY: Let's just say he hasn't done much to change.
ELLY: I'm sorry. I honestly thought that you guys would last. Are you sure that you can't come back from this?
AMY: I keep making the same mistakes. This time I'm gonna put an ocean between me and Gary, just so I don't go backwards.

No 24
Aaron and David are trying to convince Chloe to tell Fay about her diagnosis, but she's not budging - reminding Aaron that he wouldn't even get tested a few weeks ago because he was in denial. Aaron retorts that he's admitted he was wrong about that. Mark comes in and agrees he's not comfortable keeping secrets from Fay. Chloe replies that she just wants Fay to enjoy a few days of family time.

CHLOE: What's the rush? It's not like I'm dying tomorrow.

Fay comes in and asks Chloe to delegate her some wedding preparation tasks, since she was put in charge of planning the wedding. Chloe's forced to admit that she's no longer involved in that - and that her Peru trip means she won't be attending the wedding. Fay is appalled and perplexed.

FAY: You aren't seriously thinking of missing your brother's wedding for another holiday?
CHLOE: It's not like that. This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
FAY: Oh, and your brother's wedding isn't?!

Fay asks Mark how he feels about it; he simply replies that it is what it is, and rushes out having received a text message, followed closely by Chloe on her way to work. Fay looks towards Aaron for an explanation.

No 30
Mark is back at Toadie's, who is explaining that he's found some promising precedents for dismissed police officers being reinstated. All of them pleaded traumatic or distressing circumstances in the period leading up to their dismissal - and Toadie thinks that's Mark's best bet, too.

MARK: I'm happy to talk about Tyler and Hamish - I mean, they were distressing situations.
TOADIE: ...
MARK: What? What it is it?
TOADIE: Well, that's a start. But the Tyler thing doesn't explain why you covered up evidence for Sonya. That was before you even met Hamish. There were other things going on around that time, though.
MARK: ... What? No, no, Toadie!
TOADIE: Mark, if we can explain that you were grieving, well then, that gives us such a strong case.
MARK: No! I am not using Caitlin's death as a bargaining chip! Not for anything! Just forget about the appeal.

Mark leaves hastily.

Lassiter's Complex
Elly bumps into Chloe, saying she's just seen Fay inside The Waterhole, and asks how Chloe feels about her being in town. Elly touches Chloe's arm and then apologises for it; it's awkward.

CHLOE: Umm, I think I need to keep my distance from you. So my stupid heart can stop... being stupid.
ELLY: ... Yeah, of course.

Chloe heads into the pub. Elly looks sad.

The Waterhole
Aaron, Mark and David are at a table with Fay. Chloe sits down to join them for lunch, but Fay is still annoyed she's missing Mark's wedding, and takes the opportunity to say so. Mark diplomatically says that he respects Chloe's choice not to be there - but Fay is convinced there's more to this than meets the eye. She asks if Chloe's involved in criminal activity!

FAY: It would explain a lot of things, like all the money you suddenly came into!
CHLOE: I told you, that was through work.
FAY: Nobody gets bonuses like that. So, where did you get the money?
CHLOE: From a man. A rich man. He paid me for my company.
FAY: Is that why you're going to Peru, to be with him?
CHLOE: No, he's out of the picture now.

Fay is still baffled, therefore - but Chloe can't take any more questioning and decides to leave them to have lunch without her. Aaron follows her towards the exit, and Fay asks Mark and David what's really going on.

MARK: I think you need to hear this from Chloe.

In the doorway, Aaron reiterates to Chloe that she should tell Fay about her diagnosis. Chloe wants to do it on her own terms, but Aaron says it's getting to the point where she can't put it off any longer.

Amy has packed her suitcase and is ready to leave for New York. Sheila tells Amy she's sad she couldn't change her mind, but concedes Amy needs to do what's right for her. They hug, and Sheila goes inside the house - leaving Amy to talk to a sombre Gary.

GARY: Safe flight.
AMY: ...
GARY: Just, say g'day to Jimmy for me.
AMY: I will.

They hug emotionally.

GARY: Is this really what you want?
AMY: Bye, Gary.

She leaves tearfully, and Gary looks distraught.

The Waterhole
Sonya is trying to convince Mark to allow Toadie to use Caitlin as evidence of his trauma in the period leading up to his dismissal from the force, but Mark insists his mind is made up.

MARK: I'm not using the death of our daughter for something so selfish.
SONYA: How is it selfish?
MARK: How are you not seeing this for what it is?
SONYA: I don't actually think that you're seeing it for what it is. I mean, imagine all the good you could do if you went back to the force. You could use... I mean, you could use our tragedy for something really positive. You could honour Caitlin with it.
MARK: I just don't want to lie.
SONYA: It's not a lie. It did have a huge impact on you - and on me. You'd only be telling the truth - I just don't see what's wrong with that.

Sheila is sorting out some of Xanthe's possessions to mail up to Queensland for her. Gary says it's good that her things are still lying around, to remind them of her. Sheila suggests he call Xanthe if he's missing her, but Gary says it won't change how things are here.

GARY: And now with Amy gone, things are about to get real quiet.
SHEILA: Yeah, well, we'll just have to keep ourselves busy, won't we? Or we can just sit around and feel sorry for ourselves.
GARY: What else can I do? I screwed everything up. I've brought this on myself.
SHEILA: Yeah, you did. But you can sit there and worry about what you did in the past, or you can fix yourself up for the future.
GARY: For what?
SHEILA: For what? What do you mean 'for what'? For Amy!
GARY: She's gone, Mum - she's left.
SHEILA: Yeah, but she's coming back! And when she does, she will make her own choices - and you need to show her that you are a changed man. And you need to do it before the next Doctor Rob comes along. Think about it!

Chloe comes in and finds Fay making a cuppa. She tries to avoid her, but Fay insists on talking. Fay appears to have forgotten about telling Chloe about Tyler and the cruise this morning, but wants to know why she couldn't be honest about her escort work.

CHLOE: Because I copped enough judgement from Mark and Aaron. I didn't need more from you.
FAY: Look - the only thing I will ever judge you about is when you keep things from me. Like this Peru trip. I know there's more to it - Aaron told me.

Chloe agrees to sit down and tell Fay everything - but Fay clumsily knocks over her cup of tea after her hand starts shaking. She admits it's been happening a bit lately, when she's tired. Chloe looks worried, recognising this as a possible Huntington's symptom...

Lassiter's Complex
Karl and Sonya arrive in his car. He's given her a check-up, and reminds her to drink lots of fluids and stick to bland food. She has a gastroenterologist appointment in three weeks, and Karl asks if she wants him to fast-track it. She asks if it's necessary; Karl thinks her symptoms are just the aftereffects of Heather's poisoning. Sonya says that if Karl's not worried, neither is she.

Sonya gets out of the car, and encounters Mark. He announces he's on his way to see Toadie; he still doesn't love the idea of using Caitlin as a justification for his actions, but has decided to talk it through with Toadie and give the appeal another shot. Sonya says it's the right choice, and hugs him.

No 24
Mark comes in to find Chloe, David and Aaron sitting around the table looking sombre. Chloe reveals that she is worried Fay might have Huntington's disease. Aaron thinks it's an overreaction; she can't conclude that based on a spilt drink. But Chloe says Fay exhibited memory loss too - another symptom. Aaron is still unconvinced.

CHLOE: I want to be wrong about this - I don't want this for Mum. But I know all the signs of this disease; I've researched them obsessively. I can't pretend I don't see this.
AARON: But haven't we already worked out it came from Dad? Isn't that why he was aggro all the time? David, if Mum had it, surely she would've started showing symptoms years ago, right?
DAVID: Like with anything, there can be exceptions.
CHLOE: Do you agree with me? Do you see this too?
DAVID: I haven't formally assessed her.
MARK: David, this is our mum. If you know something...
DAVID: This isn't my professional diagnosis. But I did notice at lunch that Fay had trouble swallowing her food. I had planned to keep my eye on her, and I didn't want to mention anything until I had more evidence.
CHLOE: And I gave you that.
DAVID: I'm sorry, but this isn't a choice anymore. Fay needs to know she may have Huntington's.

Everyone looks worried.
