A park
Jack is hanging out feeling sorry for himself, and Amy arrives to join him. She suggests that Bishop Green is being over-the-top in closing the church, but Jack admits the congregation has been dwindling.

AMY: What are we supposed to do without a church?
JACK: You could go to Eden Hills Church!

Amy doesn't look thrilled at this idea. Jack says he knew his decision to leave would have consequences, but hates leaving everyone in the lurch - he'd hoped for a transitional period to phase out of his duties. He's also feeling guilty for letting Amy and Jimmy down. Amy insists he hasn't - Jack should just focus on his next step.

He's worried about finding a place to live and work. Amy doesn't have any extra work going at the yard at the moment.

AMY: I understand how hard it is starting from zero. I've been there. When Jimmy's dad left I was blindsided. I didn't know who I was without him, or how to live. But I did. And you will too. You say you don't know what your future holds, but you do. Your future's Gabe. And you'll be surprised at what you can achieve for his sake.
JACK: You're right.
AMY: Of course I am. And you don't have to figure it all out at once. Or alone. I'll be there to boss you around.

Jack cheers up a little.

No 26
Paul and Jimmy are playing chess. They each admit they've missed their games.

JIMMY: I've also missed absolutely smashing you.

Jimmy captures one of Paul's knights. However, their game is soon interrupted by Gary and Terese, who've just come back from lunch together and begin ravaging each other in the kitchen!

PAUL: Children present!
GARY: Oops! Sorry, mate (...)
JIMMY: Don't worry, G-Dad - I can hack it. They do it all the time.

Gary and Terese look contrite, and Paul uncomfortable. He decides to head back to the motel, without finishing the game. Jimmy looks sad, and Gary prepares to resume ravaging Terese, having forgotten that Jimmy is still in the room!

Lassiter's Lake
Dipi and Aaron are busily drying off the lawnmower after its dip in the lake, while Mishti and Shane watch. However, when Shane tries the remote control, the mower doesn't move.

SHANE: The universe has been trying to tell me this dream is over for a while now. I reckon it's time I listened.
DIPI: Don't you dare give up, Shane Rebecchi - you've put years into this project.
SHANE: Exactly, love. Wasted years. I'm no inventor.

But Mishti and Aaron try to talk him round, Aaron saying he can help raise money to create a new prototype. Shane, though, is not convinced, saying he's wasted enough time and money on the mower as it is.

SHANE: Sorry, Dip. I know that we needed this thing to succeed. I've let you down.
DIPI: No. It's us that need to apologise. We're the ones that drowned your work.
SHANE: Nah. This thing was dead in the water long before this happened. Bottom of the lake's the best place for it.

He hands the remote to Aaron, and wanders off. Everyone looks sad.

The Waterhole
Steph is with Paul at a table. She's trying to establish whether Leo is definitely keeping the cheque that Mark gave him to cover the damage at the backpackers'.

PAUL: Yeah, why wouldn't he?
STEPH: I dunno. But Sonya doesn't need any more grief from him.
PAUL: Well, Leo has got enough money to carry out the necessary repairs now. So yeah, I guess it's safe to assume that he has moved on.
STEPH: Right. But you'll tell me if he hasn't, or if he changes his mind?
PAUL: Yeah, course.

Steph points out that Paul had no problem keeping her out of the loop when Leo was 'gunning for Sonya'. Paul replies that since the motel has merged with the backpackers', it's in their interests as well as Leo's that the backpackers' opens again as soon as possible. Steph says that it also means she should be consulted on decisions affecting the business. Paul says he never meant to exclude her.

PAUL: Come on, you have my word, honestly. Your trust in our professional relationship should remain as strong as it's ever been.

Lassiter's Complex
Meanwhile, outside, Amy has called a meeting with David and Leo to discuss how to help Jack get a job and place to live. David makes helpful noises, but can't see Jack squeezing in at the Tanakas' flat. Leo is barely interested at all, much to Amy's annoyance, since he's too busy trying to work out how to get the backpackers' open again. Leo opines that Jack should have thought about all this earlier.

DAVID: There's no problem with helping him along the way.
AMY: Exactly. That's what friends are for.
LEO: Are you sure that's all you want him to be?
AMY: Excuse me?!
LEO: Well, you're putting in a lot of effort, that's all.
AMY: No more than I would with anyone else that I care about.

David sighs into his drink.

AMY: And that includes you, if you believe it or not. But if you always need a motive to help someone other than yourself, then you're in more trouble than I thought.
LEO: Alright, alright. Point taken.
AMY: No, seriously! Jack is your friend. He's about to embark on something that pretty much terrifies him. And if you were in his situation, he'd be doing everything he can to help you out.

Leo looks contrite.

No 32
Mishti, Aaron and Dipi look sadly at Shane's lawnmower. Dipi's feeling guilty for Shane losing hold of his dream, when he went to so much effort to help her achieve her own. Mishti says she owes Shane too, but Dipi says she's done more than enough by bankrolling the café and their lease. Aaron's surprised that Mishti is 'that cashed up', but she changes the subject.

Aaron suggests they get a mechanic to look at the mower and tell them if there's any hope. Dipi doesn't think they can afford it, as they need to pay Mishti back. The sisters start rowing, with Mishti saying that she wanted to spend the money on helping Shane and Dipi, and Dipi retorting that she should be saving it for her own future.

But Aaron calls a ceasefire - he knows someone who'll take a look at the mower for free...

Robinson's Motel
Amy is asking Paul to put up Jack at the motel for a while, but Paul says he can't - they're fully booked with the backpackers' closed for refurbishment. Paul suggests Jack could live at No 26, as he's lived there before - but Amy points out there are already five of them there. Or six, if you count Terese.

PAUL: Oh, she stays at your place?
AMY: Yeah. More often than you'd think. It's a pride thing with Gary.

Paul looks uncomfortable again - and then suggests that Jack could take Amy or Jimmy's room at No 26, and that they could move in with him at the penthouse. It would mean more privacy, more family time and no rent, he adds. But Amy isn't willing not to pay rent, and says it's an overly complicated solution to Jack's problem.

AMY: It's a lovely offer, Dad, really. But I just think we can come up with a simpler solution.

Paul agrees, but looks disappointed.

No 32
Tyler has been summoned to assess the grassworthiness of the solar-powered lawnmower, and quickly establishes that the mower has been waterproofed - and only stopped working due to a loose wire. (Why Shane, as the inventor, couldn't have established this himself is unclear.) Sure enough, the mower is soon up and running again.

The Waterhole
Amy is at a table with Jimmy, and calling round acquaintances on the phone trying to find a home for Jack - to no avail.

AMY: There's no room at the inn. Wonder if Erinsborough has any mangers?

Jimmy asks what will happen to the church when Jack moves out. Amy thinks they will sell or lease it, adding what a shame it is. Terese comes in, and Amy asks after the spare room at her house - but Terese says she's keen just to concentrate on family at No 22, since things are going so well with Piper being home.

TERESE: Speaking of family, how is everything with your dad?
AMY: Good - why?
TERESE: Oh, I dunno. I just wondered if he felt uncomfortable visiting you both, while I'm spending time with Gary there.

Amy says Paul hasn't said anything along those lines, but Jimmy's face says it all.

JIMMY: He was acting pretty weird earlier when you were over. He left halfway through a chess game, after he said he was gonna take revenge.
AMY: Right...
JIMMY: Yeah, he doesn't normally do that kind of stuff.
TERESE: Yeah, I don't want to make something out of nothing. But I know how much he loves spending time with you both. And I'd hate for him to miss out just to avoid me.

Amy looks thoughtful.

Erinsborough Backpackers'
Leo and Jack's bromance continues, as Leo gives Jack a tour of the nearly-refurbished backpackers' (complete with protective sheets over the Ikea shelving, perhaps lest somebody else should inadvertently drive into them).

JACK: Looking good, man.
LEO: Me? Always!

Leo says he plans to reopen soon - or at least, he will do if Jack can help him out. He offers Jack free board if he helps him set the place up.

JACK: Did Amy tell you of my situation?
LEO: Yeah. Yeah, but this isn't charity. You'd be doing me a favour (...)
JACK: You're a good friend. I wasn't sure where I was gonna stay tonight. Yeah. Let's do it.

Leo shows Jack around his new home.

Robinson's Motel
Amy comes back to talk to Paul.

AMY: Did you ask me and Jimmy to move in with you so you could dodge Terese?
PAUL: What? No! I told you - I thought it was a good idea, that's all.
AMY: It can't be easy seeing her with Gary every time you visit us. Especially now they're engaged.
PAUL: You know what? Terese and Gary's relationship status is of no interest to me whatsoever. If she's fool enough to marry that dimwit, then she's certainly not the woman I thought she was.
AMY: Hmm. No interest at all, then (!)
PAUL: ... Alright, fine. It is wretched. You happy?
AMY: No!
PAUL: You know, she can see a future with him that she could never see with me. Whereas I, on the other hand, can imagine growing old with Terese in a way that I would never want to with anyone else, and... Yeah, it's hard. And it's also shown me, actually, how lonely I am.
AMY: Why didn't you tell me all of this before?
PAUL: A man's got his pride, darling.
AMY: You're such an idiot.
PAUL: Oh, nice!
AMY: But - you're right. Me and Jimmy should live with you.
PAUL: Ah, now you're just pitying me.
AMY: Yes... No, not at all! Look, it'd be great to live as a family. Especially for Jimmy.
PAUL: You're serious?

Amy says the situation at No 26 might change soon anyway given the engagement, so if they're going to have to live somewhere else, she'd love it to be with Paul. Paul is over the moon.

No 32
Aaron explains to Shane how his mower is waterproof after all, and 'practically indestructible'. Aaron identifies this as another selling point for the 'Rollie' brand.

AARON: It is next-level durable!

He adds that he has lots of marketing ideas, and an old friend who can help with the manufacturing and distribution. He offers to take Shane through all his plans for the mower. Encouraged by Dipi, Shane agrees, saying that would be 'tops'.

Erinsborough Backpackers
Leo is showing Jimmy, Amy and David around the refurbished backpackers'. While David and Jimmy go to check out the dorms, Leo thanks Amy for having a go at him earlier, and convincing him of the need to help Jack.

LEO: I guess I've spent so much time thinking that apart from David, the only person I could rely on was me.
AMY: Well, you know you've got more than David now. You don't have to operate like that anymore.
LEO: Yeah, I'm working on it.
AMY: Baby-steps.

Jack arrives, bringing his possessions with him. Amy invites Jack to come to dinner with the family to celebrate her and Jimmy moving in with Paul. Jack's pleased for her, but decides to stay here and get settled instead. As Amy and Leo leave, Jack looks around his new home, smiling.

The Waterhole
Gary is chatting to Amy, while Leo, David, Jimmy and Paul are at a table nearby. Gary says that the Cannings will all miss Amy and Jimmy, but that he understands family comes first. Gary goes on to deliberately taunt Paul.

GARY: It's gonna be a new chapter for all of us, isn't it? (...) Me and Terese getting hitched, it's gonna take a bit of getting used to.
PAUL (muttering): Yeah, that's an understatement.
GARY: Still, I'm feeling pretty good about it. I almost feel like we should have a toast!
PAUL: (...) I don't want to keep you or anything (!)

But Gary insists on toasting his own engagement, while riles Paul so much that he gets up and leaves, telling Jimmy he'll be back in a minute.

Lassiter's Complex
Paul finds Terese outside in the courtyard.

PAUL: There you are - I've been looking for you.
TERESE: I'm surprised, given the speed you've been running away from me lately.
PAUL: Nothing gets past you, does it? See, your astuteness is one of the things I like about you. That and your kindness. I know you told Amy that you were worried about me.
TERESE: Well, I felt I had to.
PAUL: Well, I'm kind of glad you did (...) cos now they're gonna move in with me. I couldn't be happier.
TERESE: Oh! Well, I'm pleased to hear that. Yeah, I didn't feel good about costing you time with the people you cared most about.
PAUL: *Two* of the people I care most about.
TERESE: ... Umm, Gary's waiting for me.
PAUL: Yeah, course, yeah.

But Terese glances sadly at Paul as she goes inside.

Erinsborough Backpackers'
Jack sits on the bed in the mezzanine at the backpackers', looking at a photo on his phone of baby Gabe. He smiles.

The Waterhole
Terese is at the bar doing some paperwork, looking distracted. Gary comes in, asking if she's ready to go - but she prevaricates, saying she has quite a bit to do. He offers to wait, but she says it will take a while, and suggests she meet him at No 26 later. Gary leaves, and Terese looks conflicted, telling herself to get it together.

As she goes to open a box on the bar, she gets a stab of pain under her arm, and appears to feel something amiss on the side of her chest. She looks worried.
