No 22
Josh comes in and immediately confronts Imogen about what she said to his colleague at the gym - she claims it was just a few harmless questions.
JOSH: Well they can't have been too harmless, because I just got fired! And in front of Amber too, just because it wasn't humiliating enough.
IMOGEN: I literally spoke to him for like, two minutes, max.
JOSH: Do you have any idea how annoying you can be?!
But Imogen is totally unapologetic. Josh says he has 24 hours to return the supplements if he wants his money back.
IMOGEN: Great, just count yourself lucky. You were terrible at sales - you said so yourself - so now you can get out without any debt.
Josh says he didn't want out, but Imogen insists he's better off, claiming the company was 'dirtier than Enron' - as indicated by the speed at which they fired Josh when she started asking questions.
IMOGEN: Face it - Beefcake Inc are hiding something.
JOSH: You knew how much this job meant to me.
IMOGEN: And I'm sorry. But you'll thank me in the long run.
JOSH: At this point I'm barely gonna speak to you - let alone thank you.

Tyler is still in pain from his beating. Mark emerges from the bedroom, predictably topless, and offers to cancel his plans to see Sonya so that he and Tyler can hang out. Tyler tersely rejects the idea, and Mark says he was hoping they could put the Paige stuff behind them. But Tyler insists it's not about her - he's just tired from work.
TYLER: I couldn't give a toss about Paige!
MARK: Just talk to me! Look, I know being dumped really sucks, and it's hard to open up, but...
TYLER: Like I told you - work sucks. End of story.
Tyler marches off to his room.

Toadie is offering Nate some fairly patronising coaching prior to his date with Brett, the guy he met at the LGBTI fundraiser. Nate insists he has been on dates before; and Kyle, who is also present, queries how much Toadie knows about romance, given he's leaving Sonya at home this evening to hang out with Mark, 'the hottest guy on the street'.
Susan interrupts the boys' sartorial advice to Nate by telling him he should go in whatever he's comfortable with, so he opts for just a T-shirt. She reassures him he'll be fine on the date, and just to be himself.
NATE: Any more tips?
SUSAN: Yes. Don't get your guitar out.
TOADIE: Is that a euphemism?
Susan explains that Karl serenaded her on one of their first dates, having brought his guitar along because he was too stingy to pay for tickets to a gig.
SUSAN: The point is that he was just trying too hard. But luckily I could see underneath all that to the loveable cheapskate that he truly is.

Imogen comes round to talk to Mark; he tells her that the checks he ran on the Elixa Fuel outfit came back clean as a whistle. Imogen's despondent, as Josh will be even angrier now he's lost his job anyway.
Mark reveals he also has sibling stresses, and asks if Imogen has noticed anything weird about Tyler lately. She says he's always really weird, but doesn't know of anything in particular that's bothering him - other than spending all his time at the garage and splitting up with Paige. She promises to let him know if she hears anything else, and thanks Mark for checking out Josh's firm, before leaving.

Mark has come round for his catch-up with Sonya, and moans about how Tyler won't talk to him about his problems. Sonya wonders if his increased working hours are a coping mechanism following his break-up with Paige, but Mark says it's been going on way before then.
MARK: Family of boys. We're never really open about our feelings.
SONYA: Yeah, but there has to be some way you can break through.
MARK: I could kick him out. That'll get him talking.
SONYA: Yeah...! Or, is there something you used to bond over as kids?
MARK: What, other than getting out of Dad's hair when he was in a mood?
SONYA: Perhaps something a bit more positive.
MARK: There was always Death by Dice...
Sonya remarks that she thinks Mark's found his icebreaker.

You know it's going to be a good date when Susan and Kyle are along for the ride; but Nate doesn't appear to mind their presence.
NATE: You guys are here in case he doesn't show; so how about distracting me?
KYLE: Alright. So, a horse walks into a bar...
Brett walks into the bar. He comes straight over and compliments Nate on his t-shirt, but Kyle just stands there grinning at the pair of them like a moron, until Susan drags him away to sit elsewhere. But as Nate gets talking to Brett, he notices that Alistair, the homophobic guy he encountered at The Waterhole not long since, has just walked in. Nate and Alistair give each other the evil eye, while Brett wonders what's going on.
Dingoes' Gym
Forrest is busy selling more of his supplements to extras, when Imogen comes in and starts ranting on to him about the Fair Work Act 2009 - and how he can't dismiss Josh without good reason. Forrest realises that Imogen was the one asking questions here before.
FORREST: You're just a uni student, aren't you?
IMOGEN: Well, yes - but regardless of my qualifications, Josh's dismissal was unfair, and unreasonable... and unfair!
FORREST: So what, you going to dob us in to your professor?
Once she realises the legalese isn't working, Imogen tries the moral approach - telling Forrest that Josh is going to be a father soon, and is just trying to provide for his family.
IMOGEN: So why should he suffer because his big-mouth twin couldn't keep her big mouth shut?
FORREST: And you're the big-mouth twin, I'm guessing.
IMOGEN: Yes.
FORREST: You don't look much alike.
IMOGEN: Fraternal, obviously.
She asks for him to give Josh another chance, but he simply says he's busy and moves on to his next client.

Mark challenges Tyler to a game of Death by Dice.
TYLER: Just when I thought my life couldn't get any lower. You're on.
MARK: Here. You can have the first roll.
TYLER: Oh, hang on. No-one can find out about this.
MARK: Oh, dammit. I was just about to update my status. 'Playing dice with Tyler Brennan.'
They settle down to some beers and dicing.
Off Air
Brett is trying his best to engage Nate in conversation about a war art exhibition he wants to see, but Nate's too busy giving Alistair funny looks to concentrate properly. Brett gets up to fetch more drinks, and Kyle comes over to ask Nate how the date's going. Nate points out that Alistair's in the bar, and has been staring at him all night. Kyle goes over to confront Alistair and his goons, introducing himself as...
KYLE: Kyle Canning. Cranky Granny's grandson.
Alistair insists he doesn't want to cause trouble, but Kyle says he is just by being here.
KYLE: So, unless you want a boot up the backside, I suggest that you and your chino-loving posse here go and find another place to drink. Got it?
But Alistair takes a seat, not intending to go anywhere, and continues to stare out Nate.

As they play dice, Mark reminds Tyler how this tradition began, during their first summer down at Coffin Bay.
MARK: Aaron caught the biggest snapper you've ever seen in your life, and he got so spooked he threw the whole rod in the water.
TYLER: Oh, yeah, yeah. And then Dad went in to get it.
MARK: Yeah, nearly killing himself in the process. Aaron swore he'd never fish again, and Mum had to come up with some idea to keep him entertained.
TYLER: Priceless.
MARK: It's the first time I've seen you smile in a while, mate.
TYLER: Yeah, there's nothing much to smile about lately, I suppose.
MARK: Come on, it can't be that bad.
TYLER: If the dice game is the highlight of my week, then yeah, it obviously can be.
Mark presses Tyler for more details.

Imogen comes in and finds Josh watching TV.
JOSH: What have you done now?
Imogen apologises for interfering in his job. She says Mark checked out the firm and found they were legit, so she went to speak to Forrest to change his mind. She's worried she ruined Josh's chances of getting re-hired - but Josh reveals that Forrest has just called him and offered him his job back.
JOSH: So thank you for fixing the mess that you created.
IMOGEN: Ha-ha. Well, I'm glad I could help.
Josh brags about how Forrest said he didn't want to let Josh go, given his 'impressive public profile'. Imogen is suspicious that Josh was employed for his profile, given the whole Chris/coward-punch incident. But Josh says Forrest thinks people only remember the good news stories. Imogen makes out she's happy for him having his job back.

Mark asks about Tyler's new manager at work; Tyler admits that Stubbsy is a factor, admitting he's bitten off more than he can chew trying to please him. Mark offers to have a word with Stubbsy, but Tyler says he can fight his own battles.
MARK: Why didn't you come to me earlier?
TYLER: Jeez, I don't know, the usual. Because asking you means I fulfil every negative idea that you have about me, and that Dad has about me too.
MARK: Dad had his own flaws, okay? His tough love approach didn't always work.
TYLER: Yeah, tough love. Without the love part.
MARK: He loved us in his own way. Anyway, my point is, I'm not Dad, okay? I'm here for you. No judgements.
TYLER: Then how come when I arrived you basically made out that I was a screw-up? And that it was only a matter of time before I proved it?
MARK: You're not a screw-up, okay? And we can get through this together. But you need to talk to me.
TYLER: I just did!
MARK: Why do I get the feeling there's more to it?
TYLER: There's not.
MARK: Well what about you telling me you came off your bike, but there's not a scratch on it? Or the heavy that Sonya saw you with?
TYLER: What is this, an interrogation? You make out that you're supportive, but you're just looking for a way to catch me out.
MARK: Oh, Tyler, come on.
TYLER: No, there's no follow-through with you. You took off when I was thirteen. How's that for support?
MARK: Where's this coming from?
TYLER: All you want is to turn me into a little mini-you. This whole dice game thing was an attempt to soften me up.
MARK: I wanted you to talk to me. I wanted to remind you how close we once were.
TYLER: Yeah! Once! A long time ago. Not now.
Tyler gets up and walks out.
The Waterhole
Imogen whines on to Toadie about her suspicions regarding Forrest's business, and why they'd want to hire Josh.
IMOGEN: After the coward-punching incident, Josh's public profile doesn't exactly scream 'employ me' - it screams 'run'. I think they're just using it as a line to hook him back in.
She admits she's worried they'll mix Josh up in something dodgy, telling Toadie about the way they fired and rehired him, and about Mark's background check coming back clean. Toadie has to go and take a phone call, but tries to reassure Imogen not to worry.
Tyler comes in, and Kyle, who has been playing darts, asks him if he's heard from Nate. Kyle relates what happened over at Off Air with Alistair, but Tyler doesn't seem especially interested. Kyle tells Tyler about Amy working on the beautification project with him, and laments about Georgia being halfway round the world. Tyler agrees to have a drink with him, but looks glum, and can't even hit the dartboard.
Off Air
Alistair's goons are leaving, but the man himself is staying put, and is still staring at Nate and vice versa - much to Brett's increasing exasperation.
BRETT: You're into that dude.
NATE: No. No way!

Nate tries to tell Brett that he's been watching Alistair because he's 'not a good guy', and suggests they go elsewhere to talk about it. But Brett says there's no point, as he's 'dated guys with wandering eyes before'. Nate tries to get him to stay, but Brett's not interested, and leaves. Alistair finishes his drink, and walks out too, leaving Nate sitting alone.
The Waterhole
Forrest takes a seat at Imogen's table. She thanks him for giving Josh his job back.
FORREST: What can I say? You were very persuasive.
IMOGEN: Really? Because it kind of seemed like you weren't even listening to me.
FORREST: You're so cynical for someone so young.
IMOGEN: Yeah, well I've had my fair share of confrontation. You could say I've developed a sixth sense for people glazing over.
FORREST: Not that it stops you, right?
Forrest remarks that he doubts it's the first time Imogen's big mouth has got her into bother, and she admits it isn't. He encourages her to take self-defence classes with his company, leaving her a card, and she promises to think about it.
FORREST: Oh, and my private number's on the back. If you need anything.
Imogen smiles at him, but grimaces the moment he leaves.
The Waterhole
Kyle and Tyler are still playing darts. Tyler's still miserable, and admits he had a serious row with Mark. Tyler's somewhat reassured, however, when Kyle tells him that the Cannings fight all the time.
KYLE: Like Dr Phil says, sometimes it's just better to let it all out, instead of bottling it all up. That way you've said your piece, and you can just move on. Look, don't sweat about it, mate - it'll all be forgotten about tomorrow, and life'll go on as normal.
Kyle fetches Tyler another beer, but Tyler's still in a bad mood.

Mark makes a call.
MARK: Hey, mate, how are things? ... No, not great here, I'm afraid ... There's some stuff going on with Tyler - I don't know what to do ... I was wondering if you had any time to come over and suss him out... Yeah. Yeah, that'd be great... Thanks, I knew I could count on you. Bye.
Off Air
Alistair accosts Nate, and says he wants to apologise.
ALISTAIR: That stuff I said to you...
NATE: What? 'Don't touch me 'cause you're a gay perv?'
ALISTAIR: It was stupid. It wasn't me. Look, I'm not a homophobe, and I definitely don't have it in for you.
NATE: Well what was with all the aggro?
ALISTAIR: I dunno. I'd had a few drinks and I lost control.
NATE: I don't want to hear your pathetic excuses. I just wanna go home, so get out of my way.
Alistair insists he didn't know Nate would be here tonight, and didn't want to 'get in his head'. But Nate accuses him of ruining his date. Alistair admits he should have left when Kyle told him to, and again says he's sorry.
NATE: Yeah, so am I. So just get out of my way before I do something I'll regret.
Alistair suddenly grabs Nate and kisses him on the lips! Alistair then walks off, leaving Nate looking shocked.
