Lassiter's Complex
Karl stares at a poster of Zeke while he loiters beside a mailbox. The Parkers see him and find out he's waiting for a guy to show up who claims he's in contact with Zeke. He knows it could be a prank, but he'd hate himself if it was a genuine call and he wasn't there. The Parkers urge Karl to come home with them, but Karl's adamant about staying put. When they walk off, however, Karl starts to tear up.
Ramsay Street
Rebecca is walking up her driveway with Dec and Didge when Paul calls out to them. Sighing, Rebecca heads inside while Paul makes an offer to Declan. He wants to do a profile piece on up and coming footy stars, and adds that the fee would be a nice little baby bonus for them. Declan rightly wonders what's in it for Paul, but Paul insists that Declan will always be important to him. On a completely unrelated note, Didge's hair is looking really nice today and not its usual unruly self.
Number 22 Backyard
Paul skulks past while Elle, Kelly and Sam sip drinks on the upstairs decking. Holding the newspaper, Sam compliments Elle on the story she did about Zeke's bank account. Kelly asks to have a look, but when she touches Zeke's photo she gets visions of him gasping for air in the river and shakily tells the girls he's alive. She sees the questioning looks on their faces and backtracks a little.
KELLY: Uh, I just had a weird flash.
SAM: Are you psychic or something?
KELLY: (plays it down) Oh yeah, absolutely. Got any spoons you want bent?
Kelly tries to laugh it off along with Sam, but Elle can see her friend is quite serious.
Number 32
Dan helps Libby pack up her belongings, but Libby is upset and can't understand why Steph is being so petty and spiteful. She can't believe that 10 years of friendship could come down to this.
LIBBY: I've never seen her like she was today. I need her. With everything that's going on with Zeke, I need my best friend.
Ben rocks up in the hallway with his suitcase and wonders where they're going.
Number 30
Libby glumly welcomes Ben to the House of Trouser. Callum wanders in and orders Dan to start talking. At first he's not impressed with the thought of sharing his room with Ben, but then concedes that he could always use a butler. Ben dumbly agrees (like it's the best idea on earth) and skips off to make Callum a drink. Dork. Dan tells Lib he's looking forward to waking up with her every morning, but Libby can't rake up much enthusiasm.
Hospital
Steph vents her anger over her best friend blow-out via other means by asking Toadie to slap a malpractice suit on Charlie's doctor. Toadie is quite hesitant and tells Steph that a malpractice suit is a long and drawn out process. But when Steph threatens to get another lawyer, Toadie folds and says he'll do it. Toadie wonders if there's anything else going on he should know about, but Steph just curtly replies, "I'm just looking after what's mine".
Number 28
Susan's on the phone to Miranda, who is letting her know about bumping into Karl earlier. Toadie and Kelly pop by for a visit to see if Susan's looking after herself. Susan insists she's OK - she's just sick of feeling useless. Karl arrives home and plonks his backpack down on the table, letting Susan know he went to the soup kitchen and Salvo centre when the man didn't show up. While they chat, Kelly touches the backpack and gets another flash of Zeke thrashing about underwater. She finds out the pack belongs to Zeke but doesn't say anything to the Kennedys about how she has The Shining. They leave and Susan tells Karl he needs to see Dr Levi for some counselling, but Karl doesn't think so.
KARL: Zeke is alive, OK. I can't tell you how I know that but I do. I'm not giving up hope.
Number 22 - Next Morning
Kelly stops by to ask Elle out for a coffee before work. Sam lets Paul know that Andrew Simpson's lawyer was just on the phone, but Paul reckons he's just looking for attention. Sam makes a joke about Kelly's psychic powers before heading out with Paul, but Kelly is quite serious about her gift. Her mum and nan have a "sense" too. Elle wonders if she's going to tell the Kennedys about her intuition, but Kelly reasons that it often does more harm than good.
Number 30
Toadie strolls into the lounge room carrying a box of pizza, clad only in a singlet top and manky nappy-like boxers, having a heart attack when he nearly suffocates Libby with his butt on the couch. Libby shrieks and covers her eyes just as Dan and Callum appear. Toadie's stunned to learn that Lib's moved in (Callum failed to tell him last night), so Dan starts to tell him about the fight.
Harold's Store
Dec and Didge have breakfast with Rebecca and tell her about Paul's offer. She's hesitant, but knows it would be good for Dec's profile. Lou reckons they should ask "Lois Lane" about it (aka Elle), but when Elle joins them she assumes they're talking about her father blackmailing Rebecca into splitting up with Andrew. Declan's ropeable and immediately heads out with Didge.
They pass the Parkers on their way out. Miranda notices Rebecca glumly sitting by herself and wonders to Steve if she's lonely. Being the blokey bloke he is, Steve says Rebecca looks OK to him, but Miranda is concerned.
Charlie's Bar
Toadie meets with Steph and tries to talk about Libby, but Steph is more interested in the malpractice. Toadie has bad news for her - Dr Olenski has hired Tim Collins and wants to make a counter-claim of child neglect because "Ms Scully exposed her son to danger whilst engaged in a dalliance with her lover". Steph's outraged, but Toadie informs her the claim will be dropped if Steph does the same.
STEPH: What? And she gets away with poisoning my son?
TOADIE: That's not what it's about though, is it.
STEPH: (sighing) That doctor hates me, Toad, and I don't blame her.
TOADIE: Then drop the malpractice suit, we won't win.
Toadie suggests Steph call Libby for a friendly shoulder to lean on, but Steph ignores him and says she has to get to the hospital.
Harold's Store
Lou delivers coffee to Elle and Kelly in a French accent (one line of pseudo French this week and pirate-speak the other week - poor Lou's really hit the storyline wall). Toadie walks in and lets Karl, Susan and Libby know that Zeke's bank account has been accessed again. There's a glimmer of hope in Susan and Karl's eyes until Toadie continues that it wasn't Zeke - some guy just found his wallet on the riverbank. Karl tries to remain hopeful and thinks it's a sign that Zeke made it to shore, but Susan takes his arm and pleads with him to see sense. Looking very fragile, he sits down as Elle and Kelly glance over at them.
ELLE: Maybe you should say something.
KELLY: I don't know.
ELLE: Well if this 'sense' thing really works then it wouldn't be giving them false hope, would it?
Kelly is conflicted.
Ramsay Street
Miranda finds Rebecca tending to the garden and asks her to move into #26 with all the clan. Rebecca looks pleased and is about to answer when she hears Declan yelling at Paul. Declan shouts that Paul can stick his offer - he can't buy him, and he can't buy his mum either.
DECLAN: Just leave her alone.
(He walks off with Didge and Rebecca calls out)
REBECCA: He's right. We've got to leave the past in the past OK? I've got a new business to organize, I've got a grandchild on the way, I've got great friends; maybe even a new home. It's my life, Paul. You've got no part in it.
Paul looks suitably chastised. Good.
Number 28
Karl is unpacking some of Zeke's stuff from his backpack when Kelly stops by. She's extremely reluctant to cause any hurt, but admits to Karl that she thinks Zeke's still alive. Karl is hopeful until Kelly starts explaining about her visions, then he gets very angry and upset.
KARL: How dare you come here with, what, feelings? And flashes? Haven't we been through enough?
KELLY: They're real, I swear. (She looks at the backpack) I mean that's Zeke's isn't it. If I just have one more go...
(Karl protectively snatches it away)
KARL: Don't even think about touching this! What is it with you crackpots? Your phone calls and your hoaxes.
KELLY: Hoaxes? Oh God no.
KARL: You get off on this do you? Do you get off on what you people...
(He can't get the words out because he's too emotional)
Apologising profusely, Kelly quickly exits. Karl hugs Zeke's backpack tight and cries, looking every bit the broken man.
Number 32
Dan finds Libby staring into the empty kitchen. She returns her house keys and Dan realises she was hoping to see Steph. He gently guides her out of the house.
Hospital
Steph casts a lonely figure as she miserably gets a cup of coffee for herself.
Number 30
Libby sits on the couch with her mobile, either willing it to ring or deciding whether or not she should call Steph.
Hospital
Steph sits with Charlie and adds some more glum to her glum face.
Charlie's Bar
Toadie catches up with Kelly and chats a bit about Libby and Steph, likening the two of them falling out to the apocalypse coming. Just as he notices that Kelly isn't her usual bubbly self, Susan finds them and gives Kelly a serve.
SUSAN: Do you have any idea what you've done? Karl's been beside himself for weeks, you just had to look at him to see he was on the edge. And then finally this morning he started to listen until you barged in with your ridiculous visions.
KELLY: Susan I had to see Karl, I didn't want him to give up hope.
SUSAN: (voice cracking) You stupid, stupid girl! He's right back where he was.
KELLY: I'm sorry, I know this must be really hard to understand. I'm only trying to help.
SUSAN: To help?
KELLY: Yes. Zeke's alive.
TOADIE: Kelly!
KELLY: No, I know he's alive. Karl was right and you need to support him.
SUSAN: (angry) And you need to stay out of this!
She walks out and Toadie gets up to follow her.
KELLY: Jarrod...
TOADIE: How could you do this?
