Coffee Shop
Boyd quizzes Sky on the L's test. Sky asks Harold to teach her to drive. Boyd is still reluctant.
Hoylands
Steph gets off the phone with Gus's psychiatrist. She tells Boyd that Gus has been asking to see Max. Max comes in and asks what they were talking about.
Coffee Shop
Karl, Izzy and Ben are now eating a meal in public. Ben continues to torment Izzy. Sky and Harold watch from behind the counter. Sky comments that Izzy has no maternal skills, and that she shouldn't pretend to be something she's not. Harold tells her she's making an effort, something Sky should do for Izzy instead of making things unpleasant. Sky retorts that it's Izzy who makes things unpleasant for everyone. Harold brings an ice cream for Ben. Izzy makes baby talk with him, which Sky mimics. She's very pleased when Ben shoves the cone in Izzy's face and smears ice cream all over her.
Hoylands
Max tries to tell Steph his reasons for going to see Gus, but Steph tries to talk him out of it. Max tells her he needs some closure, and that's why he's seeing him.
Karl's
Karl thanks Izzy for putting up with Ben and making an effort. He tells her he likes being a grandfather, but his "daddy days are over". He takes Ben to the bathroom when he makes a toilet noise. While he's gone, Libby comes back to collect Ben. Libby goes off at Izzy: "Don't use my son to score points. You don't have a maternal bone in your body." Izzy tries to defend herself, but Libby won't hear it and asks her to tell Karl she's back.
Karl's
Izzy comes back, and tells Libby she's wrong - Izzy loves Karl and he loves her. Libby doesn't think so, and Izzy tells her that she's underestimating Karl and herself. Libby starts to argue further, but stops when Ben and Karl appear, and turns all cheery. Talk turns to Libby's new job, and Izzy asks her what she's writing about. Libby looks straight at her and tells her she has a few ideas.
Susan's
Libby is typing out a story on her laptop. All we can see on the screen (and hear Libby say out loud) is:
"... the way, thanking the women older than them who for...
...opportunities they now embrace with open arms.
But then there is the young woman still desperate to be worshipped, who will stop at nothing to gain control."
Coffee Shop
Sky tries to quiz Boyd on the driver knowledge test. Boyd gets out of answering because Max comes into the shop. He refuses Max's offer to drive them to the test. Max tells Boyd he's visiting Gus. Boyd tells him Gus is a nutcase, and Max still defends him.
Karl's
Karl is trying to fix a cupboard door and hurts his hand in the process. He tells Izzy he normally gets Joe to fix stuff for him, but he's in Bendigo. Izzy comments that Karl puts himself down when it comes to handyman stuff. Izzy closes the door when he finishes and tells him it looks alright. Karl explains that he puts himself down because Susan used to tell him he wasn't any good at it. Izzy tells him it's time to see himself in a whole different light.
Coffee Shop
Libby and Steph discuss honeymoon ideas (for Steph and Max, not Steph and Libby). Libby notices Harold checking out some women and Steph tells her it's happened a few times. "It's just not right," Libby says. Harold comes over to give them their drinks, so they shut up. Libby comments that she noticed Harold looked a bit "distracted". Harold denies it.
STEPH: Don't worry Harold, it's perfectly natural.
LIBBY: Yeah, if that's your type.
HAROLD: I don't have a type.
STEPH: That's what you say, but your eyes say something else!
LIBBY (looking in magazine): Good God, would you look at him!
STEPH: I can't, I'm almost married.
LIBBY: Well, I'm not, I'm S&A, thank you.
STEPH: You're what?
LIBBY: Single and available.
HAROLD: Excuse me; do I smell a double standard going on here?
Hoyland house
Izzy comes in, and there is tension between her and Steph. When Steph mentions Max seeing Gus, Izzy suddenly gets upset. She says she is worried for Max and she wants to go and see if he's alright. Steph tells her that he's been gone for a while, and would be just about finished by now.
Psychiatric hospital
Gus tells Max he never meant to hurt the family, and that he'll be alright now, with some help. Gus suddenly tells him he needs to see Izzy. Max tells him it's not a good idea, but Gus keeps insisting, even grabbing Max and shouting at him. He backs off when some staff open the door to investigate the commotion. Max leaves at this point.
Coffee Shop (night)
Sky enters, excited that she passed the test. Harold promises to give her her first lesson tomorrow. Max asks about Boyd. Sky tells him he got a headache and didn't want to do the test.
Hoyland house
Max comes home and Boyd asks about the "freak", then apologises when Max asks him not to call him that. He fills Boyd in on Gus's progress, then mentions Sky passing the test, and asks why Boyd didn't do the test. Boyd insists he had a headache, but Max doesn't believe him - he uses that excuse every time he doesn't want to do something. Boyd won't tell him why he didn't really sit the test, and Max gives up.
Susan's house
Libby and Steph are still looking at wedding magazines. Libby gets depressed looking at pictures of men. She talks about her dating experiences in Adelaide - a PE teacher who wore tracksuits all the time, even at dinner; and Roger, who had a veggie garden and wouldn't stop talking about rabbits. Libby tells Steph she hates the "getting to know you stage" and wants to just date guys she already knows. Steph narrows it down to Stu ("been there, done that," Libby says), Connor ("he's like my brother") , Jack ("I think I've learned my lesson about that particular age group, don't you?"). Steph tells her that only leaves Harold. After Steph leaves, Libby thinks to herself, "well, maybe".
Hoyland house
Steph returns and asks Max about Gus. He tells her Gus was desperate to see Izzy, and Steph agrees with Max that it was strange. He tells her about her encounter with Izzy today, and how she stressed out when Steph mentioned Gus to her. Izzy comes in, having overheard. "If you really want to know," she says, "why don't you ask?"
Pub
Susan and Tom have drinks at the pub and talk about the Amnesty conference coming up.
Hoyland house
Izzy goes off at Max for talking about her and Gus behind her back. She insists nothing is going on between them, and Max tells her about Gus's dire need to talk to her. Max demands that she tells him what's going on.
