Martins
Madge and Harold are breaking the good news to Helen. They're doing the whole thing, cakes, flowers, the works. Helen calls Phil in to hear the good news and they break out the champers (and orange juice for Harold). Madge goes to call Lou and invite him over.

Outside number 30
Darren and Cath are looking to see if they can spot who walked in on them but there's no one in sight.

MAL: Can't trust you two for one minute, can I?

Cath immediately assumes he knows but Mal's talking about them slacking off. Darren says they heard someone but Mal says it wasn't him. They hear Bonnie yapping and assume she was the one making the noise. Darren says he'll take her home, he's finished there for the day so Mal can work out what needs to be done tomorrow. Mal asks Cath what's going on, she's jumpy. Cath blames it on the noise, thinking it was a burglar or something. Mal pulls her into a hug and suggests that as his parents are out and Billy's too sick to be a nuisance, how about take away and a night in?

Lou's
Lou tells Marlene about Madge and Harold's 'engagement', telling her to leave the dinner as it's not often they get an engagement on the street. Marlene makes a sly remark about it being a long time before the next one given how some people behave which piques Lou's interest. Marlene tells him to go and get Lolly up.

Number 32
Darren's returned Bonnie just as Justin turns up. Anne invites him in as she's not finished getting ready. Justin asks if she wants to walk or get the bus, he'd have driven but he's not got the car. Anne remarks that her mum was going to drive them until she talked her out of it. Justin wonders if Ruth trusts him, Anne's quick to say she was just being a mum. But on the plus side she did give her money of the bus fare and the movie.

Justin says he'll pay for her, he's got heaps of money... only he's not got his wallet. He was sure he put it in his pocket... of his other jeans. Whoops. Anne's not got enough money for the pair of them so they'll just have to sort something else out.

Martins
Everyone's toasting the engagement when Helen asks if they've decided on where they'll hold the reception. They decided to renew their vows about half an hour ago! Lou offers the pub which Harold's not too sure about, so Lou says the party at least is on him.

Helen goes to see to some food, finding Marlene in the kitchen putting the finishing touches to a platter. Helen asks what's wrong, Marlene is very quiet. That's probably what set the alarm bells ringing. Marlene says it's nothing and she's not ruining Madge and Harold's fun.

Number 30
Darren comes back in, he left his keys behind. Cath comes back in with a Thai menu for that night, faltering when she sees Darren. Mal takes the menu and leaves, saying he'll see her in an hour. Darren immediately says the kiss was wrong, Cath raising him a "really, really stupid". They want to pretend it never happened.

Kennedys
Anne and Justin have come over, Anne awkwardly telling Billy that she and Justin had a date planned until Justin forgot his wallet. She asks Billy for a loan, twenty bucks if he can. Billy goes and gets his wallet and hands over the cash. Anne thanks him and she leaves with Justin, leaving poor crushed Billy to close the door behind them and realise he's really messed up.

Martins
Phil and Lou are talking about the cake - ten to fifteen layers high! At Harold's protest they scale it back to seven or eight layers. But it *has* to have a little fountain on top, spraying water.

HAROLD: But wouldn't the cake get wet?

Madge finally loses her composure and tells him that the boys are winding him up.

In the kitchen, Helen confronts Marlene about whatever it is that's on her mind. Marlene doesn't want to burden anyone else with her problems... but then proceeds to tell Helen that Darren's been carrying on with Cath; she walked in on them kissing. She doesn't know if she should say something to Libby or Mal. Helen advises saying nothing. Maybe the fact that they were caught might be enough to make them see sense? Marlene says they don't know they were caught as she walked out. Helen advises talking to Darren and leave it to him.

Kennedys
Mal comes home with dinner and wine and Billy comes out, blankets wrapped around him, on the hunt for food. But not that food - it's for Mal and Cath. Mal says she's coming over and Billy should make himself invisible. Libby comes out, ready for her date with Darren to see a band at the Pump Palace and Mal tells her to stay out late.

Billy starts nosing through the food and Mal tells Billy to go buy his own. Billy replies that he gave his last twenty bucks to Anne for her date. Mal can't believe that Billy funded Anne's date.

MAL: You actually gave a guy money to take out a girl you've got the hots for.

Mal says that with any luck the night will carry on the way it started and he'll be in with a chance again. And maybe then he'll actually tell Anne how he really feels.

Lou's
Darren comes in after his date and is immediately set upon by Marlene. Lou comes down long enough to say that he's finally got Lolly down for the night and he's off to bed himself. (What was she still doing up? One assumes this band gig wasn't over and done with by seven in the evening...)

Darren's about to head off himself and Marlene immediately has a go at him, telling him that she saw him kissing Cath earlier. He's lucky it was her - it could have been Mal or Libby. She wants him to stop carrying on and treat Libby with the respect she deserves. And if he doesn't she will tell Libby the truth.

Kennedys
Mal and Cath are lying on the couch watching a movie. Cath thanks him for a good night and their kiss is interrupted by Libby coming home. She says they left early as the band was a bit loud, plus they've got early starts. Mal goes to make them a coffee and Libby tells Cath that she and Mal make a great couple. Between the two girls, Libby says that since Mal started seeing Cath he's been much easier to live with, so the whole Kennedy family thank her.

The guilt trip kicks in for Cath as Libby heads off to bed.

The following morning Billy's getting ready for school while Susan thinks he should take another day off. Mal says Billy's eagerness to go back to school might have something to do with trying to find out how Anne's date went last night. Bill tells Mal to go to work but it's not like he has far to go. Libby comes out of her room and in response to Susan's comment about having some breakfast she pinches a slice of toast out of Billy's hand.

Mal tells Billy that he's not going to get anywhere if he keeps playing the victim. He should tell Anne how he feels about her - one date with Justin doesn't make him her boyfriend.

Number 30
Cath and Darren talk about their kiss. Darren tells Cath that it was Marlene who saw them and she's said her piece. She won't tell anyone as long as it doesn't happen again. Mal comes in which puts paid to further discussion on the matter.

Bishops
Harold's warming up for his walk as Lou comes in with an idea for the wedding. Well, an idea for a buck's party. Lou promises a tame party, no strippers or dancers. Just some mates celebrating a wedding. Lou promises Harold the time of his life and I can hear the alarm bells from here.

Number 32
Ruth asks how the date went and Anne apologises for being home later than eleven - they went for a walk afterwards. Ruth asks when she's going to meet Justin, Anne says he's asked her out again. Ruth says they'll talk about it later as she leaves for work, running into Billy at the door.

Anne thanks him for bailing them out yesterday. Billy asks about the date and Anne says that it went really well.

ANNE: It's funny. We'd have probably been going out ages ago if we'd just told each other how we felt.

Billy thinks she's talking about them and starts to move towards her, but she quickly says she meant her and Justin.

Shot down in flames, can I get a fire extinguisher please?

Billy asks if they're a couple now, and wonders if Justin was suss about them. Anne says that she told Justin that Billy was a friend. A good friend.

Number 30
Darren goes to get morning tea, Mal giving him an order that will probably leave no room for lunch! Mal sees this as an excuse to have some time with Cath but she manages to ruin the mood with her confession that she kissed Darren. She explains that since the driving lessons there's been this thing between them, like something was going to happen. Yesterday it did but she promises it won't happen again. That's not the point as far as Mal's concerned.

CATH: It wasn't emotional.
MAL: Well that's OK if you were just after his body.

Cath says she loves him and she wants to be honest with him when she's made a mistake and she wants his forgiveness. From the look on his face that's the last thing Mal wants to give.
