No.24
MARLENE: You heard about poor Lou, huh?
CODY: Yeah, the real estate agent told us we were selling our house to a respectable family from the country, and they move in and start shooting the neighbours with a hunting rifle!
ANNALISE: Yeah, meet the Kennedys!
Annalise says she's looking forward to going to Darwin. Marlene tells her that the Nullabor is very hot and dusty. Cody thinks Annalise is being quite gutsy driving across the country and Annalise looks a bit worried. They wind her up, saying there'll be no shows or toilets.
Sam limps out of his room and moans that there are things all over the living room furniture. Marlene explains she is getting things ready for the shop.
Chip comes round to ask Sam if he wants a lift to training, but Sam says he's too injured. He offers to take Sam to see a "great doctor" that he's found.
Ramsay Street
Phil has come home in a taxi, but he can't pay as his wallet is inside the house. Karl sees this and steps in, paying the taxi driver off.
KARL: Where's your car?
PHIL: The police wouldn't let me drive it home. They just booked me for driving under the influence.
KARL: Oh, no. You haven't been drinking this early in the day, have you?
PHIL: No, of course not! I...
But Ren comes over and interrupts them. They wait until she's gone.
PHIL: ...apparently I'm still drunk from last night. 0.7 was my reading, which means I'll lose my licence for six months.
KARL: Well, I know the police have got a duty to keep the roads safe, but I don't think anyone would blame you for making one or two errors of judgement right now.
PHIL: To the rest of the world, it's business as usual. It's as if Julie never existed.
He slopes off.
No.22
Cheryl is discussing the plans for the day with Ren. She explains that Lou is in bed resting today. Cheryl moans that the article in the paper is a load of rubbish. Cheryl is wondering what the new name for the pub should be. She tells her about Jack Lassiter who built the complex and how he named the Waterhole - it's an exact replica of a pub his late wife ran in the outback - he built it as a memorial to her. Cheryl isn't averse to changing the name though(!)
No.26
Phil has had a sleep. He gets up to find the kitchen in chaos, so starts to clean up. He breaks a mug with "Julie" on it and starts to cry.
No.24
Annalise is asking Mark if they can take a caravan to the Variety Club Bash(!) Mark says they'll have to manage camping.
Marlene asks Cody why she's not studying this morning. She tells Cody she'd better tell her what's going on.
No.26
Phil is trying to glue Julie mug back together, trying not to cry.
PHIL:(mutters) Julie, I love you.
Coffee Shop
Karl, Mark and Annalise discuss the newspaper article. Mark tells Karl that Colin Taylor talked to the press.
No.24
Cody tells Marlene that she doesn't want to be a dobber, but the exam should be fair. Marlene suggests leaving the papers on the Principal's desk with an anonymous note: "These have been leaked. Re- set exam". Cody thinks that's a good idea.
CODY: If something goes wrong and I get caught, all hell's going to break loose.
Doctor's Surgery
Karl is ranting at Colin on the phone about talking to the Press. Colin apparently offers him a free subscription to a gardening magazine to make up for it(!)
Sam and Chip are in the waiting room. Karl's colleague calls him in.
DR DAVIES: I hear you've been prescribing generics.
KARL: Yes, that's right. Well, they're much cheaper for the patients.
DR DAVIES: Well that might have been all very well where you were in the country, but as you know, we have an arrangement with one of the big drug companies.
KARL: What, so you want me to just prescribe one brand of medicines?
DR DAVIES: Yes, wherever possible. This isn't just a clinic, Karl. It's a business, first and foremost.
KARL: I see. I'll try to keep it in mind.
Dr Davies shows Sam in to his office.
Pub
Phil comes in and orders a glass of white wine. He looks terrible. Cheryl has heard about the drink driving charge and tells Phil off.
PHIL: I had no idea I was over the limit this morning. But don't worry, there'll be no more drink driving, they've taken my licence off me.
CHERYL: Oh, good, so you'll just be drinking and going nowhere, will you? Philip, you have got to stop writing yourself off like this, Hannah needs you!
PHIL: Yeah, well, I'm having a tough time of it at the moment. Hannah realises that.
CHERYL: Oh I realise it Philip, too, I know what you're going through.
PHIL: Cheryl, I'm going to get really angry if you keep lecturing me because you have *no idea* what I'm going through.
CHERYL: Philip, I know you're finding it tough because it's just you and Hannah at the moment. When Murray died, he left me with four children to raise on my own. I know how tough it can get.
PHIL: Yeah, alright, I'm sorry. But as far as I know, this is still a public bar, and my money's as good as anyone else's, so are you going to get me that wine, or do I go somewhere else.
CHERYL: OK.
Dr Davies's Office
Dr Davies tells Sam that there is some tissue damage. He prescribes and anti- inflammatory and a painkiller. He tells Sam to come back tomorrow if there's no improvement.
Waiting Room
Chip looks at Sam's prescription and says he thought Dr Davies would have given Sam something better.
Ramsay Street
Hannah is sitting on the wall outside No.26 waiting for Phil. Billy chats to her and offers to break into the house for her(!) Hannah has had a terrible day at school, too.
No.24
Marlene's shop rental has fallen through. Cody tells Marlene that she put the exam papers on the desk with a note, but she hasn't heard anything about it yet.
Annalise and Mark come in. Annalise has bought a huge pile of camping equipment for the trip. She suggests a trial run - they could camp in the back yard. Annalise says it'll give her a chance to use her new "Campercino" coffee machine which runs off a gas bottle!
No.26
Billy and Hannah have managed to get into the house, and Billy has helped her clean up. He goes to open the fridge to see if there's any food, and finds a load of rotten food in there.
Phil comes in carrying two bottles of wine and forgets Billy's name. Phil is clearly drunk and gives Hannah some money to ring for takeway. Billy looks very worried. Phil is not feeling well.
BILLY: Is he always like this?
HANNAH: Sorry, Billy.
(Later)
Phil is in a drunken stupor on the sofa and Hannah puts a blanket over him. There's a knock at the door, and it's Karl, come to get Billy for dinner. Billy asks if Hannah can join them.
KARL: What's your father got in mind?
HANNAH: Well...he's asleep.
BILLY: Yeah, he's as full as a tick!
KARL: Alright, alright, that's enough. Take Hannah back and tell your mother I won't be long.
Karl goes over and tries to rouse Phil, but he's very soundly asleep.
Garden of No.24, the following morning
Annalise and Mark have been camping out. Annalise says it was the worst night of her life(!) She tells Mark she's not going on the trip without a proper doona and mattress(!)
Annalise hasn't found anyone to look after the Coffee Shop yet, and Marlene says she could do it. Annalise is really pleased.
Sam limps over and asks Marlene to give him a lift to the clinic.
Dr Davies's Office
Dr Davies tells Sam that the cartiledge in his knee is out of commission, and Sam will have to miss the finals. However, there is one other option - an eight week program of injections.
SAM: What is it?
DR DAVIES: Decca. You've probably heard of it.
SAM: Decca?
DR DAVIES: It's an oil- based steroid. It takes a long time to work through your system, which is why I'm recommending the eight- week programme. Now, you can have the choice of an injection in your thigh, or in your buttock. Most guys go for the buttock, so if there's any bruising...
SAM:(looking worried) Not anabolic...
DR DAVIES: sam, for an injury like this, I think it's justified. And don't worry, Decca is very low on androgenic side- effcts, you won't have any problems.
SAM: But...
DR DAVIES: Hey, hey, if you don't want it, that's fine. I couldn't take any responsibility for you playing while you're on the course, anyway. But from what I hear, you'd be very unlucky to be tested. And it'd certainly give your game a big kick- along. But it's up to you.
