Henry and Todd march the graffiti artist back to No. 26 to face Jim. They discover his name is Nick Page. He pleads with Jim not to call the police because it would kill his grandmother; he is all she's got. Henry doesn't believe him. Nick says the graffiti was nothing personal; it was just a great fence! Helen appears and says she believes Nick but asks him if he knows how much money he has cost. Jim tells Nick that if he re- paints the fence in the morning he will forget about it. Henry is holding onto his Walkman until then, and takes him home to check where he lives.

Jim and Helen are eating breakfast the next morning, and Helen is trying to persuade Jim to go easy on the poor boy as she thinks he was terrified.
JIM: The "poor boy" shouldn't go around willy- nilly destroying other people's property.
HELEN: Especially people who've had an argument with their wife!
Helen apologises for bringing Beverly into it but says Beverly needed someone to talk to. Jim says she's not the only one. He says when they got married Beverly had no interest in having children. What is he supposed to do now she has changed her mind? Helen says he's asking the wrong person; she desperately wanted children but after Anne she was told she couldn't have any more and that's why she adopted Rosemary. Jim says he has done all that and wants time for himself now. Helen reminds him that he's had four beautiful children of his own, and Beverly wants to experience that too. She pleads with him to think about it.

Henry is giving Todd more advice on kissing Emma. Emma comes across the bridge and says Henry is nice.
TODD: Henry? He's old!
EMMA: Yeah I know, but he's still nice.
Todd offers to carry Emma's school bag but she says she's fine. He deliberately drops his binder and Emma helps him pick up his papers. Todd looks nervously at her. Watching from the sidelines, Henry says, "Now!" Todd leans in to kiss Emma just as she stands up and he misses! Emma runs off.
Workshop
Nick arrives at the workshop. He tells Jim he could prevent others from doing graffiti on the fence by putting his mark on it. Jim thinks he is suggesting a protection racket. He says he will call by the house to collect his Walkman and then leaves. Helen tells Jim she thinks the fence is very good!

Henry and Todd are sitting at the counter and Mike asks Todd if he has got girl trouble. Todd says that and listening to Henry's bad advice! He tells Mike about what happened with Emma. Number 26
Helen gives Nick his Walkman back and says she's glad that's all over. Nick says it will all start again by someone else as soon as Jim paints over the fence. Helen says she has persuaded Jim to leave it alone because she happens to think it is rather good. She tells Nick she is an artist too and asks if he would be interested in coming to the lessons she is going to run. She says she wouldn't charge him because she knows his grandmother couldn't afford it but Nick goes mad, saying they don't need her charity.
Later on, Jim brings Helen's keys home, having fixed her car. Jim apologises for his sore head earlier but Helen says she had worse when Mr. Muir, the school principal called; he saw Nick painting the fence and would thank them not to encourage children to stay away from school! He confirmed that Nick lives with his grandmother but she is very unwell. Helen wants to help but Jim says she can't take in every waif and stray.
