Apparently the lady is widowed and has come out to Australia to sort out some bills and stuf. Helen and Paul tease Jim and ask if she is youngish(!)

Clive says to make them sit down and talk about their changed lives. Madge says that she can't get her mother down to Erinsborough because she won't talk to Dan. Clive suggests a subterfuge - that Madge should ring Edna and tell her that Dan is on his way home. Edna will agree to visit Madge for a while(!) Madge isn't sure she can lie to her mother, but Clive says it's either tell a lie or have Dan living with her indefinitely!
The Office
Paul is off to see an important client when Susan come in. Susan tells Helen that she can't go to the interview because she hasn't got anyone to mind Sam. When Susan has gone, Helen has another go at persuading Paul to give Susan a job but he is unmoved.
Outside the Pub
Paul bumps into Jim and asks him how well he knows Ruth. Paul thinks she's a con. But before he can elaborate, Ruth comes up in tears and tells them that all of her money is gone - her accountant in London has absconded with the lot. Now she can't pay her bill and her luggage has been impounded. Jim asks Paul to release the luggage, but Paul refuses saying it's hotel policy until the bill has been paid(!)
